Konohas Chuunin-exam Arena was a beautiful piece of architecture. Its vertically stacked slabs of concrete had been raised to millimeter-perfection, and fused together with ninjutsu. It was tight enough to hold water, as proven a few years back by a nameless ninja who filled the entire stage waist-high with water during his exam.

Shira didnt like it for being water-tight though, in fact he could not care less. He liked it becouse the scale of the walls gave off a warrior-like pride. As if the very concrete spoke to him, saying "ye who steps in here better be ready to FIGHT!". It suited him well, having taken a liking to the thrill of battle months ago.

He wasnt sure exactly why he had come to this place at this spesific time. After receiving the news that his left arm would never recover, he had taken a walk to clear his head and accidently ended up here. Despite coming almost straight from the hospital he was still armed to the teeth, nobody had dared touch any of his equipment especially his Katana becouse of his reputation of being a hothead, but the bandages that were starting to come lose still clung to him.

It was rare for anyone under jonin to be allowed to visit other villages so when Fahran heard about the chance to visit Konoha he leapt at the opportunity; you got bored of Iwagakure after a while, I mean all it is is rocks, rocks and more rocks.

It was not as Fahran had hoped however as it was a diplomatic mission and further more he wasnt allowed to sit in on the meetings for fear the lower ranks that accompanied the diplomat might screw it up.

And so here sat Fahran resting atop to rails of the chuunin exam arena when he noticed someone walk out into the middle of it, practically beaming they were. Fahran could feel it from here, the mans warrior like honour and desire to test his skills.

Fahran cupped his hands and leant forward a little

"Hey!"

A little to far that is as his rump swiftly slid off the railing sending Fahran into freefall for a moment or to before chakra glows around his feet as he latches onto the wall halfway down and runs down crashing into the ground.

Fahran mutters to himself, "Well that could have been worse.... or better"

Shira took note of the newcome abit later than one might think. It was as if this person didnt have any killing intent, which Shira relies on to detect enemies. As such he only caugh the last part of the fall after the shinobi called out to him.

"I guess it could. I dont recognize you, are you.." Shira said and stopped as he took note of the other nins headband. He visibly tensed up, laying one hand on his shortblade ready to draw.

It took a moment for what Shira had said to fully sink in and be understood by Fahran

"Spying?... What? No. Diplomatic mission, but I'm not allowed to do any of the diplomacy so I've got some free time"

Fahran gets to his feet and loosely dusts himself, just a couple taps, it appeared being covered in dust and dirt was not new to him.

"I saw you were excited about fighting but didnt have an opponent so I ......... decided .... to come down and offer myself."

His stance grew less tense as he heard this. He might not be at 100% but he felt pretty darn close despite the rags still hanging off of him. He tied his left arm to his chest, using the lifeless limb as an extra layer of protection aswell as stopping it from dangling around during battle. With his right, he pulled the shortblade and prepared for battle.

Being a suitable distance away already Fahran simply smiles and rapidly, for a chunin, flies through some handsigns and slams his palms down onto the earth.

"Earth Release: Rock Dog"

An average sized dog made entirely of rock comes bounding out of the earth, it circles Shira for a time to give him opportunity to understand that Fahran means to attack before diving in. The dog leaps towards Shira aiming to bite and grip for his ankles.

The peculiarity of the technique surprised him a little, as he did not expect an earth technique to mimic life. He realized the shortblade would do little to nothing against the rocky animal, and traded for the katana. He only pulled it an inch, and held back until the animal was within reach rather than meeting it halfway.

The draw that followed was almost quicker then the eye and hard to track, but its strength is what made the difference. Shira had drawn the blade and somehow turned it halfway through the strike, hitting the rock dog with the blunt side of his blade, slamming into it with all his might more akin to what one would do wielding a baseball bat than a swordsman.

It was enough to make the dog miss its lounge, and before it could turn to attack him again, Shiras blade was already re-sheathed and ready for another strike. It was here that he gambled, and raised his hands for a short series of handseals.

The rock dog shatters into a shower of stone proving to be more fragile than it presented but it had done what it needed to. Whilst Shira was distracted Fahran had spent his time weaaving intricate handseals, this time much slower than with the rock dog.

"Earth Release: Stone Defenders"

On either side of him Fahran creates a burly bigger than average "human" soldier out of stone. It resembles a man wearing plate armour and wielding a single very large shield.

The two defenders remain stationary beside Fahran as he bigger to weave a slower set of handsigns yet again.

Finishing up his handsigns, he takes hold of the katana which responded with a telltale "chink" of a sword being drawn, but once more, only an inch.

"I can only get one of them if i'm lucky, if i spend too much time carving away at their defence, he will unleash something else before im ready for it. I have never done this with one hand before, but it should do the trick.." he thought, and made his move.

He dashed forward, assuming the defenders would remain in position until he got closer. Halfway through it he gathered chakra in his left foot, and accellerated suddenly to throw off the guardians prediction, a two-speed dash not allowing for visual compensation, a trademark move of shira's.

Closing the distance, he executes the strike with all his might. The muscles in his right arm and shoulder visibly grow to twice their original bulk in a split second, before he drew the blade into a horizontal strike towards the lefternmost defender.

"Battoujutsu: 10-kilo Wolfhammer!"

(Its strong enough to cut a tree-trunk, felling the tree, but is stopped by other blades considering the foe is strong enough to hold onto his blade at impact)

Fahran doesn't even blink, no not that he doesn't even recognize that Shira is attacking. Not because Shira moved too fast, though he did, but simply because he wasnt trying to watch Shira.

One of the defenders slid swiftly into position directly infront of Shira, moving as if it were part of the earth itself. As Shira's sword impact the large shield shudders, the two forces locked in a stand still that felt like eons until the Shira bounced back and a large crater like crack was bashed into the stone shield; almost breaking it in two though it would not take much to finish the job.

By ignoring any incoming attacks Fahran was finally able to complete the lengthy handsigns as he once again placed his hands to the earth.

"Earth Release: Stone Soldiers"

Out of the earth crawls two average sized 'human' soldiers made out of stone. They resemble a man wearing light armour (think militia) and a single longsowrd.

Unlike the defenders these two immediately rush forward however they are nowhere near as quick as the rock dog but they look more sturdy; but not quite on the level of the defenders.

A soldier comes from each side, both readying their swords to slash diagonally across Shira's chest.

He was taken by surprise at how durable these units were compared to the former, and wasnt able to recover with a second attack in time before he had to do something about the new soldiers.

The oncoming attack was a problem. Normally Shira wouldve handled it with both of his blades pulled, now however he had to think himself around his new predicament, being how to handle two opponents with a single blade.

It didnt take him long to remember an old lesson of his fathers, and instantly moved to meet one of the attackers head on, diving away from the other. It was simple in theory, and something taught at just about any martial arts studio in the world. When faced with multiple opponents, you should endeavor to put one of them in between yourself and the rest, making sure only one enemy can ever reach you at any given point, leaving the other having to move around his friend to attack.

In practise, it was a little bit trickier. However Shira managed to use his own momentum to get past one while deflecting its strike, slipping around him to the other side. He didnt exactly expect the stone soldiers to crash into eachother, but having to stop for eachother should surely give him the time he needed to even the odds. He sheathed the blade in a hurry, beginning another series of handseals.

As Shira positioned himself as expected the other soldier began to circle around instead of crashing into his comrade. AnticipatingShira to keep on his feet and keep the first between them Fahran weaves a simple two sign jutsu hurling his hand out forward.

"Earth Release: Stone Sparrow"

As swift as an arrow a stone flew out of Fahran's hand towards Shira. No not a stone, a small sparrow made out of stone flapping its wings furiously moving even faster than the rock dog and heading straight for the space Shira would have to move into to keep the soldiers between him and the other soldier.

As Shira finished the handsigns and grabbed the hilt of his Katana again, the blade erupted with a brilliant flame that almost sent it flying out of its scabbard as Shira grabbed it. It grew in intensity as he pulled it, and almost exploded in a brilliant flash as the blade completely left the scabbard and was swung horizontally in front of him. The flame was intended to blind the closest stone soldier, as Shira had his eyes set on the one circling around the other.

Spinning around the closest soldier, slicing at its ankles in the proscess, before coming out of his spin crashing his blade into the second soldier. The flame had grown weaker as Shira maneuvered, but flashed back to full strength momentarily as his blade hit the soldiers longsword. The cherry-red blades temperature was so massively different than the longsword, that the moment of impact was completely avoided due to the Meisner Effect, repelling the colder blade with great might avoid molecular contact, aiming to slam it clean out of the soldiers hands.

It was in that moment he knew he had fucked up.. (see what i did there?~). In the corner of his eye he saw the sparrows through the flames just in time to be hit by them (or whatever attack they intended to launch)

(Think two super-magnets who absolutely do not want to touch)

The feet of the first soldier are sheared clean off by the sword as the soldier topples to the ground. When Shira's blade impacts the second soldiers sword repelling it, it all happened in an instant. Far too fast for the soldier to react to and as such had a tight grip on the blade. The repulsion was so strong it clean ripped the soldiers arm off sending it and the blade flying; i guess you could say he was disarmed (see what i did there?~)

The sparrow slams into your back but instead of feeling one solid impact moments before collison the sparrow exploded into a fragmentation like blast of tiny round pebbles belting into Shira (think rubber ball frag grenade).

That was not it however as Fahran flicked through some familiar handsigns and created another rock dog sending it hurtling towards the recovering Shira aiming to latch onto his leg and hold him. The disarmed soldier after recovering readies to lunge forward and tackle Shira should the rock dogs attack fail.

The shower of pebbles hurt like a bitch, forcing Shira to cover his face and momentarily lose his stance. He recovered just in time to see the incoming rockdog, and pointed his blade at it hastily. The loss of concentration had almost extinguished his technique, but he quickly forced the flame back to its original intensity, and beyond. After all, anyone who knew anything about these parts knew that the lotus blossoms twice in Konoha.

"Crimson Lotus: Blossom!"

The flame was instantly expulsed from the blade, roaring straight ahead as a jet of fire, blasting the rockdog straight in the mug.

The blade no longer burned, and its cherry-red color dimmed by the second, as Shira had exhausted the technique to its breaking point. He quickly sheathed it and pulled his shortblade to allow it time to cool down, and he did so just in time to intercept the disarmed soldier. Stretching his reaction time to its limits, he drove the shortblade through the side of the soldiers skull with enough force to break the rock.

With the battlefield a little clearer, he collapses to one knee to recover some of his stamina, while keenly observing his opponent for his next move.

"Impressive arsenal you got there, but i dont think you have enough" He said stubbornly, still confident in victory.

Shiras situation wasnt dire, but it was far from optimal. The crimson lotus is a powerful technique, but leaves his katana mostly useless until the blade has cooled enough to activate another technique, tho it doesnt take long usually. The rock pebbles had battered his body good, and every muscle seemed to ache from the beating. Even worse, he knew that his signature technique wasnt enough to break the defenders stance. The only solution was to play a hidden ace, and Shira had just that, once the blade cooled.

Whilst Shira dealt with the onslaught, rather magnificantly really, Fahran was already working on his next set of signs.

Really he had never stopped making signs since the fight started. Whenever he finished one set he always moved onto the next showing just how much trust he has in his creations to hold the enemy at bay not even considering it an option that they should break through and that he may need to defend himself...himself.

"Impressive arsenal you got there, but i dont think you have enough"]

Fahran smiled as he once again slammed his hands down towards the ground.

"Here have some more, we'll see who has enough, Earth Release: Stone soldiers"

Two more soldiers rose from the ground wielding their swords as they charge towards Shira. More of an advance than a charge as they approach just as cautiously as thy had the first time. They may only be creations but throwing them away is a waste of chakra.

The first soldier aims to come from the front leaping forward into a lunging stab for surprise extra range. Meanwhile the second soldier upped its pace to try and circle behind Shira ready to attack the moment he responds to the lunge.

By now despite having not landed a hit on him Fahran was begining to show signs of tiring, clearly he had been using up chakra by the bucket to fuel his techniques.

The incoming soldiers seemed to have changed their tactics a little bit. To Shira, a seasoned swordsman, it wasnt hard taking note of the other soldier circling around. The problem was having time and oppertunity to deal with him, something the first one wasnt intent on giving him as he lunged before he could come with a feasible plan. As such, he fell back on what he knew best; swordplay.

For in a simple contest of swordplay, Shira had no trouble besting these soulless creations. He drew his blade quickly in response to the lunge, just in time to catch the soldiers blade with the side of his own, not stopping it but grinding against its side changing its course so he barely avoided decapitation. He used the soldiers momentum to trip him with his own leg in the exchange, and stepped away from the tumbling soldier for a quick breather.

He was starting to feel the toll of battle and using many high-speed maneuvers, as his muscles were starting to respond more sluggishly. Then he suddenly realized he had momentarily forgotten about the other soldier, and his body entered panic-mode as his eyes franticly searched for him.

The second soldier wasted no time and had leapt into the air when Shira dodged the lunge and tripped the first soldier. The second soldier, soaring majestically through the air after an impressive leap, aimed to bring its sword crashing down onto Shira's head in a vertical slash. While surprising this attack had very little mobility due to being airborne.

As the second soldier was performing its attack the first soldier climbs back to its feet and waits to see how Shira will react before return to its own attack pattern.

Wasting no time knowing that Shira will soon dispatch the soldiers Fahran began to hatch a plan to close out the fight however his soldiers would need to hold out abit longer for Fahran to amass a force strong enough to defeat him.

Above and slightly behind Fahran now floated a single stone sparrow and his hands were already forming into the signs for a second.

The only thing Shira had time to do was the one thing he didnt want to do, which was completely blocking the overhead strike. In swordplay, a total block was never recommended, and most blades were in fact not made to withstand direct impacts with other blades like this. Not only that, stopping the blade with his own before it reached his shoulders/head would take a lot of strength and chakra to pull off, which ended up pushing Shira slightly into the ground as the strike connected.

Shira immediately felt the weight of it, and countering with chakra-enchanced strength was a difficult task. The soldier had an almost endless distance to accelerate the blade and build energy, while Shira had to stop it all within 15cm. The ground cracked beneath their feet, forming a slight crater and sending out a shockwave rustling nearby gravel.

He had stopped the blade, barely, but now he faced the reason he did not want to have to block it: the other soldier. He eyed it with a piercing gaze as he held back the first soldiers blade from slicing into his shoulder, knowing something was coming, and that it was coming fast.
