Crude opinion here : the character development, plot twist and maturity are good. It's away from the typical schoolroom and the topics of the shows aren't childishly brought up.
Sure, there's unnecessary nudity, hysterical reactions from Ange and just all and all your average cliché japanese animation girl/boy relations.
If you can ignore it and focus on the rest like I did, it turns out to be pretty addictive as new hints of the main plots are provided in almost every episodes.

this is unironically a great anime. Seems like all the haters are stupid, because they lie about the good parts. I can see people trashing it for the fanservice, but everything else was amazing.

I'm not certain that I've seen a more spot-on review of a series than the top one for Cross Ange (Nyron's). It is an inescapably flawed production with an irreverence and subtle self-awareness that will absolutely worm its way into your heart if you give it a chance. Ange is ultimately a masterpiece of a protagonist. After getting pissed on by the world, she doesn't become an angsty or brooding anti-hero struggling to resolve an inner conflict between faux blood-knight revenge tendencies and a greater sense of generic do-gooder justice.

People who seriously compare it to Mars of Destruction or the like are "special," and I don't mean the Fallout kind of SPECIAL.
