ANN is reporting that Funimation has licensed the Claymore. They made the announcement at noon CST today. No word on a release schedule as of yet. The manga is being released by Viz Media and has been released up to volume 10 with volume 11 being released in March.

Considering that Madhouse themselves butchered the ending, I'm not that interested to watch the dub version. Even though FUNimation are pretty good in their dub work.

You DO realize that 99% of domestic anime DVDs are dual-audio, right? <_<

That said, I will probably wait for a boxset, unless some tasty extras are offered :D

With the advent of DVDs there really should be no reason to get into a sub vs dub debate. Like Kimura says, it's practically a given it'll have both so you can just pick whatever version that floats your boat. Funimation has been doing a great job with their recent releases so I have no reason to believe they'll screw up Claymore. This is not 4Kids we're discussing here >_>

If there's not a lot of good shows draining away my money during the months of Claymore's DVD release I may pick it up as it comes out. Otherwise I'll probably wait on it.

If they'd be willing to take the series back to Madhouse and force them to remake the last 6 episodes into something watchable then maybe I'd pick up the dvds. What they really need to do is get Black Lagoon finished.

I will wait and see I saw the first episode and didn't think much of it, I will wait and maybe it will end up on IFC or Adult Swim.

I actually liked the dubbed OP for Fruit Basket.

I'm just surprised it took this long for Claymore to be licensed.

Will purchase when boxset is available.

Funimation does have its own channel however it's not carried by a lot of companies. So depending on where you live or your television provider you may or may not have access to it. Their official website is at http://www.funimationchannel.com/default.htm for more info.

That's not their fault, it has Berserk-itis. The ending isn't actually *the end* as the manga's still going.
Iit's a valid point that the dvd will have both subs and a moonspeak stream. Problem is if I buy that I'm supporting the crap that is the dubbing process, which I really don't want to do...

I know that the manga is still going. With some of the events of the original ending, I'm not sure if a second season is possible. And what's wrong with supporting the dubbing industry? It's the legal way, the better quality way. :p

Glad to see that you want the US anime market to fail. Based on it's status right now your plan is working quite well.

i dunno, dubs just do not feel right after watching subs. especially ones done by funnimation. for the longest time i bought DBZ back in the day when funnimation was all about DBZ. i never even once bothered with JP audio. it wasnt untill i watched my first subbed epp, although i dont remember which, that i found that Dubs just dont feel that great after having watched subs.

besides, there is always the added advantage of picking up a few words in JP.

Seeing as the DVDs for this, like most DVDs, will have subtitles, there isn't really much point in saying "I don't like dubs."

Anyway, this is a pretty weak license, in my opinion. I guess it is pretty marketable, though.

Wrong. Funimation has been handling anime pretty poorly lately. Have you seen Samurai 7 or Black Cat? Funimation KILLED them. In my opinion the only animes that they have handled well are Detective Conan, School Rumble, and Fruits Basket.

I'm interested now. I've never collected or watched either of these series so what exactly did Funimation do to kill them? The only recent series I'm following with Funi are Mushishi and Witchblade. I can't comment on Witchblade's content yet since I've loaned all discs out to friends but Mushishi has been top notch so far.

I watched the DVD releases of Black Cat and don't remember anything substantially wrong with them. Maybe a typo here and there, but even the best fansubs have those :

...unless you're talking about the dubs, which I don't watch and therefore can't comment on :)

The only way thing wrong with Funimation releases is their video encoding. They haven't "killed" any releases. The only anime that Funimation did a bad job on is DBZ. I can't think of any others at the moment.

I watched them at my anime club and when I watched Black Cat in english, I didn't like it. Later on I decided to watch it in Japanese and it was a whole lot better. They also licensed pumpkin scissors, which I didn't like the english voice acting either. But FUNimation has some good dubbed releases every once in a while, but lately they haven't.

If it's just a bad dub then didn't you exagerrate a bit when you said Funi killed the releases? IMO, a killed release is an edited release, a poorly translated release, a release with dubtitles, a release with major video problems, or anything along those lines. Every company has good dubs and bad dubs. I don't think it's fair to say Funi is poorly handling anime based on a couple of bad dubs. At least most of the dubs Funimation does are watchable. I've seen some really horrid dubs *shivers*
