The art (mainly the colors and shading) looked really different this episode. Very appealing. Anybody happen to know who's responsible for that change in visuals?
I probably regret this post by now.

That's an even bigger surprise. This episode screams Akiyuki Shinbou, particularly his pre-SHAFT era. Very reminiscent of his work on Yu Yu Hakusho and The Soultaker. I'm like 99% sure it's him. The bold, monochromatic coloring with intense shading, the unique shot compositions and the flashes of red frames are all a dead giveway. Don't know why he's not credited tho, perhaps he used one of his many pseudonyms.

@HidingHere Ok, so apparently Inokawa Shintarou is not an alias of Shinbou, but they did collaborate on Yamamoto Yohko (TV) and The Soultaker. His later work is much less like Shinbou in style though.
