Lol, Miss Monochrome again. I find it funny how they gave her shiny eyes in this anime.

I found the episode cute with the girls together and the brief photo shoot was kinda cute. A picture is worth a thousand words right? Dem outfits.

Erena is having a field day with the pictures of the girls in such lovely dresses.

Momoko's dress has a bit of seiyuu connection to it, as Yui Ogura has performed in and has taken selfies in those puffy dresses before, Nae also looks good in them as well. Matsuri's dress is the one I like the most of all, she can sport pink very well and I also like her jacket she wore with it.

Looks like Chloe is going back to France in the next episode, why don't they just leave that kind of goodbye for the last episode for once especially since she's a main character.

I'm guessing that the winners of the contest were based on the results of the actual Miss Seiou 2014 contest that they had a while back?

And Chloe's going back to France in next week's episode? That's a shame, she's one of the funniest characters in the show

I found it to be quite a distraction to see the results from today's election being
continually flashed on the top half of the screen. Of course, it is a very big day
for Japan. However, I wonder if those results are going to be permanently on
the versions on the streaming sites. I remember that Episode 10 of one series
has urgent tsunami warnings on the streamed version since it had the bad luck
to be aired on March 11, 2011.

Poor Tomo ended up being forced to take on the task of being the MC for the
beauty contest when she is more of a behind-the-scenes techie person. Great
that she was able to rise to the challenge and handle it so well.

I just can't believe that Chloe Lemaire will actually be leaving in the next episode.
Surely there will be some last-minute change of her plans. So far, she has been
the closest thing to a central character in the series.

The formal dresses worn by the contestants were a major highlight for me:

Interesting that they didn't take the fanservice route of showing all of the girls
wearing swimsuits.

Yeah, I thought that was kind of weird. It was more along the lines of what they
would do when filming a TV show in front of a live studio audience. These signs
say "applause":

There was another point where they held up signs telling everybody to laugh.

At least they didn't have a 'swimsuit' competition. Maybe if you think of the point of the episode as being how Tomo gained confidence to speak in front of people, and the event was just background, it might be better?
(at least, that's how I'm looking at it)

Wonder if there's a Mister Seiou competition?

Gonna predict from the start that Akane's gonna win, plus I actually like her.

That forest tea party sound great!

LOL CALLED IT

Tomo's cute, I'd like it if she hosted more too.

Sorry girls but... the outfits are a bit strange. Or at least they'd look fine if they'd ditch some accessories.

Uh, just me or did Tomo's outstretched hand near 20 min looked abnormal?

This episode was pretty entertaining, saved it for me.

Yes, this was the point of the episode. I am wondering, however, why they did not give any lines to miss Monochrome this episode although she was featured quite heavily. Maybe some dispute with Horie Yui's agency?

Freaking predictable and boring. Of course they wouldn't show the contest except for the very end, and of course a main character won the tiara.

Two more weeks... I can get through two more weeks...

Is Chloe leaving next episode? Good, I was getting tired of her. But I wish Erena would leave more.

I don't understand why this show is rated to extremely low. Even lower than Ushinawareta. This is strictly a SoL with cute girls doing cute things. Like, what the fuck else did you want from this? It's accomplishing it's goals entirely.

I'm going to rate it super high just out of spite.

@Jonesy974: It is a fair comparison to talk about "Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete"
since both of them are series based on games. For those people who have not seen
Ushinawareta, have a look at Episode 1 at 04:00 where Astronomy Club President
Airi Hasekura delivers some impressive roundhouse kicks with the camera being in
the perfect position. That could have tipped the scales.

Ushinawareta has six main characters and eight less important characters. So it is a
lot easier to get into. Typical series are built around a core of 4 to 6 characters.

After the fight, here's a scene from Ushinawareta EP1 where you can't see Airi's panties.

For me, panties have got nothing to do with it (though unfortunately okanagan may be 'right' for a lot of people). I haven't watched Ushinawareta (yet), so comparing to that means nothing to me. My reason for my current rating of '6' for Girlfriend is that, as stupid as it may sound, I actually usually want some sort of story or plot. In Girlfriend there is very little of that. Also, a huge cast usually is a distraction - it's difficult to learn anything about any of the characters. And what little of the characters we do know comes across as to sugary for my tastes - it's hard to build a reasonable picture of their personalities in my head. So, for me it is not a bad show, but it's just not that interesting either.

(Note: for me, a '6' means "fine". It does not mean bad. It just means it wasn't anything special.)

Overall, it appears that this series has been a failed experiment. That is
not only among MAL users but for viewers in Japan as well.

As of this moment, here are the most recent "Amazon Stalker points".
There are four volumes, and I give the release dates. And then there
are the numbers of points for the Blu-ray disk (BD) and the DVD.

V1 01/21 BD 1152 DVD 357
V2 02/25 BD . 986 DVD 295
V3 03/25 BD 1107 DVD 348
V4 04/22 BD 1101 DVD 435

These look poor to me. Some MAL users can make much better-informed
comments regarding analyzing these points. Informally, I would say that
this is below average but not quite "crash and burn".

Having an enormous cast with no clear core group seems to have been
an interesting stunt. Most likely, this would appeal to those viewers who
already play the smartphone game. After all, who would want to watch a
Pokémon TV show unless all 151 of them would appear at some point?

Given that their goal might have been to present as many characters as
they possibly could during the season, I think that their approach was
reasonable. Each episode was a self-contained story. The fans of Miss
Monochrome were able to stand up and cheer during the few times that
she appeared, even though she was never a central character. Those
same fans got upset the time that Miss Monochrome didn't get any lines.

"Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete" is quite a lot easier to just sit back and
watch, expecting to see a story with a plot. Also, there are only a handful
of characters that you have to get to know.

"Ushinawareta" is based on an eroge/visual novel which runs on Windows,
and apparently there is no smartphone version. So logically it makes sense
that at least they would throw in a few panty shots. I didn't feel that they
were gratuitous. In fact, they seem to help to develop Club President Airi's
vivacious personality.

It won't sell well because

-No solid premise, the amount of characters wasn't the issue, no premise at all was the biggest issue for this anime

-lack of fanservice

-It also comes off as too girly for some.

It wasn't bad episode, all cast being put into one place in those nice dresses. In the end, I liked that Akane didn't win, that would be pretty cliche after everyone ephasized that during episode. Oshii was good.

Chloe and Erena next time, egh o_O I still can't stand their voices, it would be suffering for me.

This episode would have been good if Tomo actually did the speech by herself. She would have managed to do a fine job if those other girls didn't have those "laugh/applaud/" signs. It really makes it seem like they didn't believe in Tomo's confidence.

that Erena is sure enjoying herself. Pictures, pictures and more pictures.

Nice to see Chloe again.

I get that they used the signs so it seemed as though Tomo was getting a genuine response but it felt more like a sitcom production than an actual beauty pageant (that's basically what this shit was). I'm sure the artificiality of the audience response waned as the event progressed. In any case, I'm sure she was aware of it at the end, as one of the girls held up a sign saying "You're the best!" in the direction of the stage, where Tomo and the contestants were at. So now she knows it's okay to leave your comfort zone and try new things. How cute, it's almost as if it were reiterating the same refrain from episode 8.

And Fumio is crowned winner. Now at least this school has the "patrician" taste.

It's actually only been until this episode, the one in which beauty is emphasized (given the context), that it has struck me that almost all these girls look identical. Their face/head/body structure is consistent across all of them, with slight changes in nuance with some in between. At this point I'm just gushing over their hair and colors, superficially speaking. However, its nice that I can distinguish one's character from the others as they all have different hobbies, and consequently have contrasting backgrounds. So that's not entirely the case, unlike in some other shows of this genre.

2 more episodes left of this rather boring show, the first of which being about Chloe, judging by the Ep. title and her appearance in the preview. Might be something sad too, a nice change of pace. Looking forward to it.
