Alright so this is just a simple inquiry in regards to the series Madan no Ou to Vanadis. I just want to know, does the anime series follow the light novel or should I just read the original source from the beginning and go from there?

It seems like the anime goes through the series really quick and gets straight to the point and it creates a feeling that there are some missing details but I just want to know for sure whether to start reading the LNs from the beginning or just pick up where the anime leaves off.
Don't believe the hype.

The anime is solid considering its limited budget (5 volumes packed into 13 episodes), and rushing is inevitable. Still, I highly recommend giving the LN a read.

Most definitely. So when the anime ends in two weeks, should I continue with volume 6 or just start over?

I'd say start from the beginning. The LN has a great deal of worldbuilding and character development that was skipped in the anime. Some of it are in the web mini-series, and those are always fun, but the LN is definitely worth the read.

Rurick asking Tigre if he prefers Lim or Titta, the political reason behind Ellen helping Tigre, etc etc.

Yeah I can see that. It seems like the anime does a good job of getting to the point with the conflict but fails with character development. So reading it from the beginning might be a better option as opposed to just picking it up in Volume 6. This wouldn't be the first time I read from the beginning of an original source.
Don't believe the hype.

The anime is more or less just a summary of the LN they've missed out quite lot especially character building wise.

I had a feeling it was. So basically read it if I want to fully enjoy it.
