This is a little early to be asking, but I in the middle of going through my plan to watch, seeing which is dubbed and isn't, so I thought, what the heck.

Ok, for now, how is the series going over in Japan. Has there been any criticism, or have there been good remarks?

I saw there have only aired the first two episodes, but even so, the full season would have been aired by two months.

And for the future. If the series is a hit over in Japan, using an educated guess, will there be a dubbed? I know about reverse importation, and the general rule of thumb is an anime won't be dubbed until 12-18 months after the last volume of the series is released in Japan.

What a shame, it looked good. :C I hope you're just a one off criticism, and it doesn't suit your taste, and others think it's enough to get dubbed. But now that you say it's bland, I doubt other people will say it's good enough.

Okay, well, on the plus side, there is one sign that this show is fairly popular in
Japan, based on pre-orders of the Blu-rays and DVDs. These discs go on sale
later. But people can place their pre-order now. The rationale for pre-ordering
is insurance against the off chance that the BD/DVD will sell out right away.
The number of people who are doing this is reflected in terms of "Amazon
Stalker points". Roughly speaking, these forecast the actual number of sales of
BDs and DVDs during the first week after they go on sale. There are only four
volumes for this series, whereas six is normal. Here are the Amazon Stalker
numbers as of this moment:

Vol. 1: 2263 BD + 378 DVD
Vol. 2: 2658 BD + 453 DVD
Vol. 3: 3187 BD + 554 DVD
Vol. 4: 3720 BD + 603 DVD

A lot of other people on these threads can comment with authority on the
meaning of these numbers. As for me with my limited knowledge, they look
pretty respectable. But they are way below "Free!" and "Sword Art Online"
which are roughly up around 10000 when BD and DVD are added together.

Another big part of the profit picture could be the merchandise.

However, the whole issue of this thread is whether this series is going to get
dubbed. I often watch dubs, but I don't know how to predict which series will
get dubbed. In business terms, it depends on the popularity of the series
among English-speaking fans.

Roughly speaking, this is "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" set in "School". "Slice
of Life" also fits very well since there is apparently no over-arching dramatic
story or specific theme. So let me pick out some past series that primarily
combine these three genres and which have English dubs:

Azumanga Daioh (2002)
The Best Student Council (2005)
Lucky Star (2007)
K-On! (2009)

From these examples, clearly CGDCT+School+SoL can get dubbed. However,
nothing has been dubbed in the five years since K-On! in 2009.

Given the enormous number of recent CGDCT+School+SoL anime series which
are currently being produced but not dubbed, it is hard to see what reason there
is that this series is going to get dubbed.

How is the last volume at over 4000 preorders and the 3rd projected to sell 3.7k? Usually the numbers go down with each volume after the first. Btw those are some below average numbers save for the last volume. If the series can get a solid premise in it's second half or better yet some fanservice they should sell ok.

@Hoppy:
Thank you. Very good questions to raise. The first part
of this post will only be of interest to those people who
enthusiastically follow "Amazon Stalker points" :

Well, like I said yesterday, there are lots of people who
are better informed than I am about gauging Amazon Stalker
points. So I am glad that you noticed my post. Personally,
I often enjoy series which are unpopular, so they don't
even make it up to 1000.

Well, we've seen three episodes and they have been quite
consistent, so it is pretty clear what this series is going
to be about. I mean, do you think that we are going to see
School Days EP12 ("Nice boat") or Madoka EP3 ?

As for fanservice, it looks fairly conservative so far so
I'm guessing they'll keep it that way. Excessive fanservice
can repel certain viewers. So maybe they are doing this on
purpose. My guess is that the series is designed to closely
match the people in Japan who play the free-to-play smart
phone game (on iOS and Android). I think it will work on
Google Chrome as well. It came out in October 2012 and it
is rate 17-and-up.

That being said, if you do a Google Image search for any one
of the characters, by their Japanese name, you will come
across some very provocative stuff. I guess it might be
fanart, i.e. doujinshi.

Well it doesn't need to be Madoka ep 3, Symphogear S2 ep 8, or a School Days ending to sell, just a nice simple premise can go a long way. From what you are saying, the girly and pure nature of the anime is aligned to what most players want to see, I'm not sure if going into this direction is a good idea, it's too safe and it's showing, some fanservice won't hurt but not too much.

I've done a Google search 2 weeks ago and found erotic Photoshops of many of the cards (around 29 pages of them) and some H-fanart, there's also some on Pixiv.

@Hoppy:

On your profile, I see that your list of favorite characters
includes one of the girls in this series. She's cute. The
official information says that her best school subject is
English.

As for me, my favorite character is Isuzu Shiranui, the
member of the Flower Arranging Club with the big red flower
in her hair. Her best subject is Physics.

The Japanese-language Wikipedia page lists over 100 girls.
Then you can Google their favorite and least-favorite food,
three sizes, height, weight and blood type. It is just like
Pokémon, except that they don't attack each other.

Now, Pokémon was in fact a breakout hit in North America
and presumably in many other parts of the world. There were
sellout movies in the theatres. South Park satirized it.

The 10-year-old children who traded Pokémon cards are now
25-year-old adults who are interested in serious romantic
relationships. For some fans, their fantasy bride is pure
and girly. The Ecchi fanservice can wait until the wedding
night. So perhaps there is a real possibility that they will
dub this.

Matsuri's my favorite in the series followed by Isuzu, Chloe, and Nae

I used to trade Pokemon cards as a child and Yu-Gi-Oh cards as a teenager, also what you said about some fans wanting their fantasy bride pure and girly reminds me of how the idol industry is ran, it's very similar in nature. While the direction the anime is going makes sense from the fandom's perspective, it's still too safe from a business perspective (Silver Link needs to sell enough BDs/DVDs to break even, merchandise and the game will take care of the profit issue), so it gets down to the decision to stick with the safe route (which will result in pleased fans but less sales) or add a little fanservice (some fans may complain but it has a better chance of selling at a constant 3.7-4k per volume, the anime doesn't really need to sell 6k+ to do ok due to the game and merchandising).
