Hey!

There's so much anime out there that it's getting increasingly more difficult to find the hidden gems. There are also many anime out there that do something truly unique and new and get more hate because of it.

So here you should post what anime you have found that is incredible and yet still unkonwn to the majority or what anime do you think has been bashed on for all the wrong reasons.

There's plenty like that.

Some hidden gems are:-

-Glass Mask 2005
-Kemonono Souja Erin
-Rainbow
-Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
-Touch
-Romeo's Blue Skies, etc

There's a lot more but take this for starters.

Texhnolyze. If you don't mind intentionally slow pacing in the first few episodes then this anime is phenomenal if you're into the "thinking" type anime.

Those are some cool choices, but I didn't necessarily mean anime for me.

I rather meant that here you can introduce people to anime that they most likely would never come across on their own, but the show really deserves to be watched.

For example:

Gankutsuou - For the amount of character development and overall story greatness it's sad how few people actually know the show and even sadder how few of those who know it have actually seen it. One reason why it might turn some people off is the very bookish like storytelling that takes a while to get the ball rolling, but in this case I find it a good thing due to the amount of characters introduced in a short time so you can get to know them a little better and get a feel for the show before it will all be ripped apart.
But undoubtedly the most unique part to this anime are the visuals. Many people find it disturbing and uncanny and combined with the slow pacing at the start it will and has certainly turned many people away from the show. I can't recall any other anime done in this particular visualisation style, at least not to this extent.

So, if you like seeing new and unique things backed up by an intriguing story then this is something you should definitely have a look at.

Platonic heart - If you have seen this then you must think I'm insane for putting this here. xD

This is a bad show... Really, a very poorly made show. But suprisingly it is not something that's painful to watch. I would call this an unintentional comedy where the comedy is how serioulsy the show takes itself.
It is a martial arts tournament style anime where if you survive then you can make a wish of any kind. And peoples HP is apparently determined with the amount of clothes they still have on during the fight. But even though the story itself is funny to watch due to characters seriousness, the show really shines at the last episode that has the funniest ending I have ever, EVER seen. Suprisingly enough it even has an english dub (not sure how that happened ^^).

Even though it's my lowest rated anime - I had fun and I don't regret watching it. Hell I'd watch it again over most anime I've voted much much higher just to get a good laugh or two once again.
If you have nothing in particular you want to watch then I'd suggest you give this one a knack since it's only 5 episodes and I'm sure that by the end of the last episode it was worth it.

Enjoy ^^

I'm not gonna say its an allstar anime, but I really enjoyed 009-1.
Its quick, its short, its fun, but most importantly - its different. It is an episodic tale of a female Cyborg spy taking on various missions. It uses a more classic art style reminiscent of Astro Boy and stuff of that era. It is a seinen, so you get a few more adult themes and a bit darker tone. I find it did the whole episodic thing very well too with every episode being pretty attention grabbing.

I warn people though, the main character has machine-gun Boobs, but the shows not about that. Its used less as a lolsy gimmick, but more like a rarely used trump card (not even used in most episodes)... so please look past it lol.

Unpopular? Most people I know hype the hell out of that anime. Anyways... it's far from being unpopular, it's the total opposite. And here some MAL facts to prove it:

As for a serious answer...

For under-watched, my two top picks would be Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199) and Beast Player Erin (Kemono no Soujo Erin), both at some 6000 users despite being strong works.

For unwarranted hate, recent titles that come to mind are Aldnoah Zero and Tokyo Ghoul.

Lawl fuck you :pp Should've known that after seeing your forum pic ~.~

Anyways...I gotta watch Space Battleship Yamato 2199 asap. Got really hyped for it after seeing the trailer for the movie. Seems really awesome.

It's highly unlikely because I don't plan on starting it till sometime next week so unless you do one of those typical lengthy on-hold things that you're so good at, you should be able to get the job done before I even start.

I'm lighting it up with Erin! Watch 35 or so episodes in like 2-3 weeks and get to episode 38 in August, and then continue on with 39 and 40 two months later. I never saw anything related to Erin in September or October, and it looks like I'm putting it on-hold once again... Lovely!

What often surprises me is not the fact that you do put a show on hold indefinitely but AT WHAT POINT IN THE STORY YOU DO IT. That's the thing that I can't quite fathom.

I actually just saw a few.

Bounty Dog = A bit underrated and I think even if that were the rating it deserves a bit more attention that it has currently. The design-work was done by the person who did the designs for Ghost in the Shell.

California Crsis = Really interesting style, and it is very non-anime. It feels more like a wester, pulp, car-chase, adventure movie that would've been released around the same time. It is set in California too which is where I live, and my hometown is even in it. But there isn't too much subjectiveness added to it as I still think it is definitely worth more attention and a bit higher score.

Kirara = Not that much underrated, but more just unnoticed. A good romance ova that goes an unusual route to developing it.

None of these are particularly "outstanding" in my eyes, but are somewhat unnoticed.

No prob. Of the three I personally liked Bounty Dog the most. They're all around the same tier for me though, being a 7/10.

I personally wish more movies in general would be around 50-minutes length as I personally have been really enjoying things of that length recently. It's a length that allows for some substance, but a bit of creativity also to get everything out there. I see it as the longer something is, the more it has to do to justify that length.

Other great 40/50-minute stuff: Memories (episode/part 1), Cat Soup, and Neo Toyko

first anime that comes to mind is:

Kaiji : ultimate survivor. Most people will be put off by the character designs at first but it is so fuckin amazing. You will love the main character not only because he is awesome but also because of his many flaws. He is the first crybaby in anime that ive seen who I actually liked.

Secondly : house of five leaves.

Itś a samurai show that deviates from the usual samurai route. Action scenes are almost not present. but the characters, conversations and story are amazing. The animation and sound both are top-notch.

Third : Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin

really beautiful story with awesome characters which will give you mantears unless you have a brick for a hearth

Bio Hunter - Way underrated. It has about 3,000 views total so it isn't too obscure, but this is definitely one to watch.

Seirei Tsukai - If you like Fate/Stay Night a lot, this is similar and pretty interesting. It's kinda rushed, but it's good. Really obscure too with just over 500 views.

usually if I like something a lot but it isn't that popular, its not because its not unrecognized, but because a lot of people don't like it/ niche audience

kaze no stigma- loved the character interaction with the tsundere weaker than the male mc- It something I have yet to see done so well- as opposed to Louise from zero no tsukaima beating the hell out of saito

moon phase- I don't think ive met anyone who has liked it that much, and tbh I disliked a few events- not because they are bad plot, but because I personally don't like the MCs getting separated for too long, but the tusndere was cute

kurokami the animation- the ending...omg. some people hate it, I happened to love it- and how they integrated the OP/ED... loved it

Panzer was, without a doubt, one of the biggest surprises of 2012 for me. I just remember something happening and the last few episodes getting delayed until March 2013. The wait was excruciating! Anyway, hope the upcoming movie can keep the ball rolling.

Also would like to give a mention to Zipang. WWII and seinen demographic is a combination sensation! Probably the most cliffhanger-heavy anime I've seen, as none of the 13 episodes I went through ended on a settled or relaxed note...
