| i think it is funny how many bitch about shinji being a pussy. I find his character very understandable and interesting. He didnt have any parents since his mother died and his father ignored him and his motivations is clear since he wants to get the love of his father. And this early in the show he felt more like question your own motivations instead of crying about your position. Even if i dont really like every character, i still think they are all pretty realisticly. What does annoy me was the convienent stuff put into the story to go into more depht into shinjis character. Like when shinjis classmates ask him if he is the pilot of the eva (which doesnt make any sense) only so that his classmate can beat him up (for no real reason) so he can ask himself why he still pilots these things. Also the conviniet of the fact that after he was thrown away by the angel land just next to hos classmates only so he can protect him. So there is a lot of convinient stuff put into the story ONLY to explain the characters is a sighn of poor storytelling. |

And yeah, the three episode rule strikes again; this was a great episode. Not only was I on the edge of my seat in the battle, but I actually began to get goosebumps. I'm finding the direction and structure to be especially engaging so far. But holy damn the dub is weak. The voices of the main characters are tolerable, but some of the secondary characters are just... wut? |

| Damn, are all fights in this show gonna be so intense? Not complaining, but Shinji screaming was scary. Props to the seiyuu. Really liked Touji and the camera guy, hope they appear more. Rin is pretty misterious, whats up with her? |

| Ep 3 where we are all hedgehogs. Pros: Characters-The main theme of Shinji and the cast is brought out with the Hedgehog's dilemma and it is well voiced by Ritsuko. Touji and Kensuke are brought in and bring 2 points for both fandom/people. 1 would be excited just to see the Giant Roboto and wanting to be inside while the other would be pissed at the destruction such a thing would bring such as family members or homes. And by the end both learn what it is like for the one that has to pilot. Score-pretty good. Helped add to the drama and excitement. 4/5. Special Note: This was Shinji's first battle where he won without berserker fury and managed to capture a specimen for Nerv. This is a great milestone and proof of another theme of Shinji: Even when he wins, he loses. |

| Off to a slow start this time, that's for sure. It got better once the fighting began though! I thought the screaming was slightly over-the-top. If I was one of his two classmates that hitched a ride, I'd be scared to death of Shinji and think he was nutballs crazy! Disobeying orders like that can't bode too well for him either, even though he defeated the Angel. ★ 4/5 |

| Shinji went berserk again, except this time he was a broken drone just prior to doing so. He had wallowed in his depression and despair and had to narrow his focus down to only the task at hand in order to carry it out, but then his courage shot up to an irrational level where he essentially went "all in" in a gamble. I'm curious to how his friends will aid him in coping with his issues. With friendship comes an attachment to the world. With attachment comes a desire to protect, and that itself leads to an intrinsic willingness to fight as opposed to his current situation where he feels forced into doing so. I wonder how much he'll mature out of his shell, but at the same time I feel his mind could become even more unstable than it currently is should anything happen to those whom he would have gained a new-found attachment with. Also regarding Rei, Ritsuko asking Gendo if he saw Rei in the hospital and him replying that she was essentially just another tool in the previous episode makes me really curious. I can't help but feel that (spoiling some thoughts just in case) It's much too early for me to concretely claim anything at this point though, but it's certainly something I'll be keeping an eye out for. |

| Shinji is definitely receiving some pretty traumatic treatment being just a kid. Seeing him go into a drone-like state, hearing him scream in the Eva, seeing him cry, it all really reinforces the fact that he's a child and what this is doing to his psyche. Love the tease about fan service from Misato at the end of the preview =p |

| Damn, that was intense. I feel bad for Shinji :/. I'm loving how real this anime is though, this is how a kid in this situation would realistically react. Hes scared, confused, and has no idea wth hes doing. Unlike in your typical anime where the MC is some cocky kid who acts like hes been doing this his entire life So far I'm really enjoying this. |
