If you are a fan, or have heard of, Killzone, you might see some similarities between the 2.
Vers secceeds from Earth just as Helghan separates itself from ISA.
Both empires experience economic crises from the start due to abandonment. Until a mad leader comes to be and transform them into nazi-like states. During the reform and rapid industrialization, both empires claim many technological successes, but the culture steadily declines as the people are either brainwashed by propaganda or whipped into harsh discipline.
Both are very xeno-phobic, seeing humans on Earth as the source of all of their misery and suffering. As a result, they resort to war.
In either way, they are sort of space Nazi, although the atrocities committed by the Vers Empire, which I am sure there are, are never shown in the anime because it does not want to dwell too much into politics.
