Whereas I expected Julius' return that happened in the last volume, I wasn't expecting Joachim to come back. At least not alive. Or sort of alive, which seems to be more the case. He's still as much of a bastard as ever, although at least this time he has no reason other than personal grudge to hate Ephraim/Harvey...
Speaking of which, where did that hatred actually come from? In these scenes from the past that we are seeing, they see to get on reasonably well at least.
And we get to learn a lot more about those monsters that were introduced in the last volume as well. Replica cores, stuffed in corpses. Christoph is lucky that he has been able to keep his sanity, at least for now.
It seems that Kieli has come into the world - this 'neverland' - of the day mentioned at the start. And that deja vu. Is this a world trapped on some kind of indefinite time loop? That could help explain how Kieli has been able to fit into it. But what was with that stuff when Kieli first came in? And are her out of body experiences in some way connected with those of that bear guy?
And what's with the weird parallels between Nana and Elisha? Is it just coincidence or is there something more to it than that?
Is that setting really just coming from Elisha's ghost? Because it's nothing like the ones that we've had before. Is the difference caused by Kieli's state? Or is there more to it than that?
Inevitably, a volume that ends in the way this one does leaves far more questions open than the previous volumes, with their neat endings, did. But we've learned a lot this time as well, not just about those creatures, but about Harvey, too. And the incident in the capital, and what is truly going on in the research centre. And, tied to that, the sad true fate that has befallen Jude.
And, incidentally, about Julius. He only appeared in that short scene, but it was enough to tell a lot more about his situation than we knew from his interactions with Kieli. He's investigating that research place? And who is that relatively young member of the church's council of elders? I'm absolutely certain that he will become significant at some point.
I know my post this time is kind of disjointed, but there's no way to make it flow properly without seriously disrupting things, which I don't want to do, or simply retelling the story.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.
The frustration continues. Kielie is so annoying to follow. She gets in trouble all the fucking time and she knows that she's always in trouble and does she ever do anything to fix it ? No.
Her stubbornness and anger at Harvey is very justified but damn it if it isn't frustrating to see the same drama play out every time.
