If someone grabs a dictionary and checks the word "Perfect", they'll find both this show and this episode associated.

Yuasa has already accustomed us to masterpieces, and this one is probably my favorite so far. And I'm really going to miss both the series and, what were, some of the most well developed characters I've seen.
10/10 and AOTY for sure.

I can't think of a single thing I could really criticize about this show. It was quite the experience seeing how all these characters came together and found themselves through a simple table tennis game and how things became clearer and more framed as the series progressed. What a hidden gem.

Tossing between 9 and 10 for this series... I was hoping for an ending like the one shown, but was surprised it was actually what happened. Really kept the series grounded with the tone it's been setting. I would have been disappointed if they went for a "happy" ending. Yuasa is a genius.

One genius adapting the work of another.

I do believe this is one the greatest adaptations of anything, anywhere, in any medium, in any time.

Of course, this anime is a 10/10 masterpiece.

Love ya, Peco.

The hero Smile was waiting for finally arrived, he's no longer a robot, rather he never was, he is human just like all of us.

Ocean guy realised he loved Ping Pong all along, great closure for him too.

I'll pick up the manga a bit later.

Ah, Ping Pong, you remained brilliant until your final episode. I don't even know where to begin talking about this show so why not start with the most obviously apparent.

The show is ugly. The art style especially, the animation has plenty of moments of fluidity but as it came across, & especially in this episode, I started noticing more of it's flaws. However, at least with the art, it isn't just about how well it's drawn, it's about what's being drawn. This series provided a ton of perfect visual imagery that does a lot to make up for the ugly art style, & this episode was no different. The robot Smile breaking revealing the human Smile was fantastic imagery which was also elevated by the sound direction. Not many series have as much attention to detail with the sound than Ping Pong has. Every moment of visual imagery is perfectly complimented by auditory imagery. It really brings key sequences in the series to a whole other level, for example, Smile vs. Koizumi wouldn't have been nearly as effective without the robot joint sounds they provided.

The sound department as a whole was fantastic. Each seiyuu brought a distinct, human performance to their characters & there isn't a single performance that isn't believable, just all-around perfect casting. The OST aided the series greatly but perhaps none more in this final episode than when we getting flashes of all their pasts, interwoven at the Ping Pong table with kids singing. Just a beautifully sublime moment & probably the highlight of the episode.

But where this series really shines is in it's characters. I can't stress enough how staggering the amount of character development in this series is. It's not even that one character is meticulously well-developed, there are at least five characters that get enough development normally reserved for the main character. Smile, Peco, Wenge, Koizumi, Sakuma, Kazama, etc. are all given a great deal of development & even minor roles like Ota are giving a good deal. I don't think I've seen a single show that jam-packs so much development in such a small amount of time without ever feeling rushed or slowing down the pace of the narrative.

The story's also really good. I was kinda worried going into the finale we'd have a repeat scenario of Butterfly Jo's match but thankfully that was averted . . . probably. Either way, we didn't really see how the game between Peco & Smile ended & we don't need too. Ping Pong isn't Ping Pong, it's about people, it's about their connections. & it's a beautifully well-written story. At times, it is predictable though & sometimes I'm not a huge fan of how neat some things wrap up but nothing's ever executed poorly.

For me, Ping Pong gets a 9/10, just barely missing out on a 10. When it comes time to rewatch it & I'll definitely be rewatching this again, it could very well become a 10. Right now though, I have no issue leaving it at a 9/10 & it has personally, entered my top ten favorite anime.

Perfect 10/10. So many amazing lmoments in the ending. Peco's test paper :P
Seeing Obaba-san, Joe and Kazama just hanging out together, and then the shot of their younger days.
The robot breaking into a human. Smile's tears.
The Rubik's cube. Smile using English in his coaching like Butterfly Joe. Dragon's injured knee. The seaside guy at Peco's match. The bird with Dragon's lunchbox. Sakuma marrying that girl. Kong playing for Japan.
The OP really sums up this show, it is pure joy.

Everything went smooth as expected, from OST which is cool enough to make me wanna download it, to the animation, which by this show standards was pretty good.
I didn't give this episodes a 10, 'cause of the ending. I was rooting for tsukimoto to win the match. Peco didn't deserve it, I guess, or atleast Smile shoul've won to avoid repeting the story of the coach.

Nevertheless, in comparison to any other sport show out there, this episode was ten times better. As always. A true masterpiece.

Realistically, yes. But thematically and in the show's uplifting nature it had to be Peco that wins.
After all what would be the point of a robot tasting its own blood if it still wins over the invincible hero?

I still have goosebumps. What a final, thrilling till the very end.

I noticed that I had a big smile on my face during the whole episode. Thank you Smile, Peko, Kong, Kazama, Demon, Obaba, Butterfly Joe for this amazing feel trip. A long and hard work, often hurting each other, but in the end so rewarding.

In the end, it's not the match that mattered, it was the journey to get there. The final game wasn't shown that much, because it wasn't necessary. What was necessary was to see that bond Peko created with Smile, how he became his hero. ''Blood taste like iron you knew? Look, blood flows inside you!''. You're no robot Smile, only a lost soul that needed his guardian angel.

This show was an ode to friendship. On how Smile, Peko, Demon, Kong and Kazama saved each other. I'm glad Kong made his way back in ping pong. He looked really fulfilled and happy. Kazama is still trying to seek his own path, but he loosened a lot. I really liked those shot with the bird flying in the air while Kazama was talking. You still need to learn to fly, Kazama. Yurie turned the page on Kazama and found her passion. Demon had three child with that girl, way to go! Smile looked really peaceful. I really liked when he said ''basing his life on ping pong can be a good thing'', it really contrast on his past self. Peko is continues his feat at ping pong. He need too, after all, he's the hero...

The directing throughout the entire show was so spot on... pretty much flawless if I do say so myself.
I must point out that while the character's voices were never overdone, their dialogue was still always so thrilling.
That's how you do it folks.

Only thing I wish they didn't have to do such a time skip and that we were given at least another episode instead.

This was a really good show. Possibly the best (ever) for me now. A bit sad that it had only 11 eps, but sometimes for gold like this, going on too long will only spoil it.

When Peco got his knee injury, 80% of myself was quite sure that the ending will be cliched with Tsukimoto going easy on Peco, but I'm so so glad it didn't end up that way. Even better, it went pass my expectations by miles. Didn't expect Kong to rise up so much, cause I've always symphatised with him that among the key characters, he was the least successful (losing to Kazama, and then to Peco). Till the end, this show never failed to surprise me. 10/10. Not the best of the season, but the best of anime for me.

I thought it was set in 1996 like in the manga, but on the peco and smile's interhigh photo it's written "14 6/20" (June 20th 2014)

And on the Kong's web news, the date is written "2019年 6月 25日" (25th June 2019)
which means the last scene was 5 year after the interhigh match.
