1. That's pretty much subjective........it was enjoyable for us fans even with the long explanations.
2. Actually you will.....the term "long" is relative but hopefully the tournament fights aren't going to be that short.

Dry writing is a real thing. It means the prose, explanations, or whatever isn't particularly engaging; it is without pathos. It's like reading the news.

Still became the second best-selling LN, passing SAO earlier this year. The point is people liked it and enjoyed it and no it's not like reading the news, it's rather enjoyable. "Dry writing" is still a subjective opinion.

I hope you realize that I'm not talking about content, but the delivery of said content. If the content interests you enough to ignore the dry writing, more power to you.

And did you just use sales as an indicator of quality? Then CoD is the best video game series of all time, right?

I don't think that is accurate. What you meant is that the series has sold more this year than SAO has as a series (there is a thread that says that). I checked the 2012/2013 numbers and SAO as a series had sold 4.7 million in that time, while Mahouka has sold 1.6 million. There is no way that Mahouka has sold 3.1M more copies than SAO this year.

The content did interest me and a lot of other people (if you didn't notice). Again "Dry Writing" is just a subjective opinion of yours. The sales was just to indicate that this so called "Dry writing" still interest a lot of people.

I think you should really write something before judging "quality" of other people's work.............since you are such an expert, i believe you will give us something normal nothing short of an masterpiece.

@ Takuan_Soho:

I believe i phrased that wrong. Mahouka is in the second place in overall sales as i believe you have also seen in the latest sales thread. Though i admit, i have yet to get firm understanding of this "sales" stuff so i could be wrong sometimes.

Dear god they finally voiced character thoughts! Ya know even Miyuki knows Tatsuya has a dull and slightly untrusting personality (thanks mum), but that usually gets some color by him talking with other people, which they don't like showing apparently.
Also, Mahouka isn't about 24/7 action that has 1000 year long fight scenes.

Here's some minor LN stuff missed:
-Again that's supposed to be a small bus rather than a car sliding.
-The bus conversation was longer than the LN one which was 3 short lines.
-The convo with Hattori & Kirihara was cut shorter.
-Miyuki said conspicuous not revealing and I think Mizuki may have had a shorter skirt.
-Mari specializes in anti-personal combat.
-Miyuki gave sympathies to her brother when dealing with Erika.
-A scene about Tatsuya's suit not fitting was left out. Considering how madhouse wanted to shove Miyuki's brocon down your throat, I'm surprised they left it out.
-Convo that Tatsuya had with Kanon and Mari were cut out.
-Rather than cold, Eri said detached.
-Masaki didn't answer after George's question, he only stared at Miyuki with warm eyes. Also banter about how ladies like to approach Masaki was cut out.
-The land there belongs to the military.
-Honoka said straight not normal. Extra romance talk was cut out.
-Isori and Tatsuya's convo was cut out.

Then what they said was that Mahouka was the 2nd best selling series from Dec 2013 through April 2014 (LN selling "years" run from Nov-Oct). So adding this to my numbers above, SAO from Nov 2011- April 2014 has sold 5.3M volumes, Mahouka 2.3M volumes, Kagerou Days is around 2.2M volumes.

But unless I am mistaken, I think Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou has outsold all of them, but ANN's listing doesn't cover this series (because I guess they consider it mainstream), but I think it averages around 1M per volume which makes SAO and the rest seem pretty small change (though of course their numbers are monster hits).

You seem to have mellowed considerably towards the anime. I'm actually looking forward to reading your opinions nowadays because it feels a lot more reliable coming from someone who has absolutely no reason to praise it. What happened? Did your expectations drop to its lowest possible denominator?

the dialogue is dry and stilted. even the joking between friends is awkward.

tatsuya is no longer surprising either. if there's something off about a situation tatsuya's gonna be there to fix things even if he's already on the other side of the world.

it was interesting to watch miyuki say that she has no romantic interest in tatsuya even though she talked about how he isn't aware of her "feelings".

this ichijou dude better be good too since the opening implies he's op too.

looking forward to the actual competition

Ah, finally, it feels like the anime is moving in a better direction. I think it could've been better, but hey, it's an improvement, so I'll take it

Firstly, didn't really like the bus attack scene too much for some reason. The sense of time felt weird. Their conversations felt longer than it wud take the car to kill em all... x.x... but it was easy to understand, and animation was good e enough.

Got plenty of meaningful character interactions without Tatsuya this time. Miyuki had plenty of screen time this time, and I think ppl can't really complain that she's jus some empty-headed bro worshipper after this episode...

Liked the fact Tatsuya's monologues came back. Please keep it. Thigs make more sense when they're around.

Why does Madhouse love to end so many episodes with an action scene -_-... oh, but Mikihiko's scene with him contemplating engaging the thieves was a pleasant addition. Also, his attack was nicely anmated.

Anyways, seems like a decent episode. Good build up for what's coming next, I think :)
The most annoying thing about some anime is that they don't know when they've died...

Yeah, for some weird reason the show doesn't seem to know how to handle its fanservice at all. It just doesn't work. And really? Still on about that obligatory big boobie girl molesting thingy ? C'mon.

But yeah, even though she barely talked about anything but her brother, Miyuki was way more bearable as a character in this episode : I guess hanging around other people does help, after all.

After watching 10 episodes, I feel it's time I make my own assessment of this anime, so please feel free to correct me in any point as long as your critics are explained in a constructive way and without offenses.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm still to read the LN's (have them saved and tried to start reading them more than 15 times.... always stop after one page, so I'm still at page 12 >_<) however, even though I understand that the story seems fairly interesting and the created concept appealable, truth is that this story seems (and please don't crucify me here, is just my personal honest opinion) to have too many characters and half the time even though I know I'm seeing a part full of action, I fail to feel any king of thrill coming from the story...

Let's just say that due to the high number of characters (which I'll admit at some points I even had to stop the anime, come to the MAL site and check the background of the character in question), I can't seem to be able to establish a connection to any of the characters besides Miyuki.

So for a TL;DR: The story seems interesting, but nothing more than that. Somehow it fails to pull me over to the story side and share the feelings the characters are supposed to be having (and yes I know that Tatsuya has his own problem on this department, so no jokes necessary here).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding this last episode I wonder who the five in question were... Maybe Tatsuya, Miyuki, Mayumi Saegusa, Masaki Ichijou (since he seems to be the antagonist), and the last spot maybe Chiba?

Edit: typo (had "side story" instead of "story side")

So far, I like Erika's character the most.
I mean she is honest (calling Tatsuya cold like that out of the blue, that was awesome but it is true), she can fight and I like her humour.
And obviously Tatsuya was the one that helped Miki catch the thieves.

Having a huge cast isn't necessarily a problem as long as they contribute something to the story. The issue with huge casts only arises when, say, half of said cast is useless.

At first I thought that the bus scene was a bit too short, but then I realized that it wasn't really long either in the LN, lol.
And Grim Dispersion term made his debut, I thought they're going to show it a bit later.

They actually put Hattori-Kirihara scenes in, even though only the important parts.
But it's a bit shame that they cut Mari's part during the banquet. Some interesting parts there, but then again interesting not really important.

That Erika in maid uniform, wow XD

It never stated in the LN the other 4 who noticed the magic, kinda wished they would show it here, oh....

Interesting to see that they chose to show only Mikihiko's POV during the intruder scene. Next episode should be mostly action, with the competition starting to get underway.

I really don't like how Tatsuya randomly appears everytime there is a problem. Anyway, was an OK episode, or maybe it's because I'm getting used to this anime. But I don't know, for once, it didn't seem they were trying to confuse when they were explaining their magical power.

Miyuki was also a bit more interesting, but I disliked how the other were fangasming on her (Miyuki, you're so strong! Miyuki, you're so pretty! COME ON!).

I would agree that those clothes look pretty bad (they're goddam ugly to be honest), but there's not a single thing that could be considered even remotely daring in Mizuki's outfit: tbh it looks more like something that a middle schooler would wear than anything else. Miyuki is basically just bothered because Mizuki got big boobs. Whattabitch.

Well, Monolith Code is basically a team fight and the longest competition in this arc so that's what I'm most looking forward to. Though this arc alone seems like it would take up to 10 episodes and with Monolith Code being at the end of it, it will be quite a wait too it seems.

Oh but I didn't specifically meant useful in fights. At least to me, these huge cast provide a bigger look on the events, be it in fights or interactions with each other aside from Tatsuya's perspective and they do play a bigger part in later arcs though it won't be possible to see it in this season.

When did Tatsuya use Electric Magic? That was Mikihiko's from his talismans. All Tatsuya did was disassemble the guns. That was the only part I recall electricity being used.

While he can do an incredible amount of things, he definitely IS deficient in utilizing 'real' magic.

Also if you really want to know what else he has up his sleeves.....ohhh that Yokohama Incident Arc is gonna be a riot.

Episode was decent at best. The series definitely is lacking and I don't find it even half as enjoyable as when I was reading the LN. Sad but oh well.
