| No, this is a direct sequel to it's prior seasons. If you're thinking of getting into Ippo, I'd recommend strapping down for the long haul, the manga is over 1000 chapters as of some months ago. |

| Yes you can. I'm one of them who just got into this from this season, and despite my lack of knowledge of past events I was still able to enjoy this immensely and it's made me curious of the previous seasons. I will say I'm pretty sure the excitement and enjoy of this season would be intensified if you did watch the previous series. |
