| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- IMO this is one of, if not the best non-action arc in Gintama. The emotions were entirely natural, and the content was also great. Episodes like this is the reason why Gintama is such a great anime. Was kind of disappointed that there was no special ending though. |

| I'm going to agree with the posters above me. Best non-action arc so far! I'm glad they let Shinpachi have his moment of awesome in this episode... he doesn't get enough of those, with the rest of the cast being kickass and stealing the spotlight all the time. (Not that I'm complaining about having kickass characters!) I love how Gintama manages to inject humor into the places you didn't think humor was possible. That conversation about blood types on the rooftop? Hilarious. And it completely killed the serious mood. |

| Aside from the second episode, I found this arc to pretty weak actually. Definitely liked the Orihime arc, which was the last "serious" arc, more. |

| Really like this arc, especially the part when Gintoki, Kondou, Hijikata try helping Shinpachi out with the letter! Sogou as usual is sadistically funny! (how in the world did he manage to make urara act as his 'slave'/'dog'??) |

Shinpachi is my least favorite, or in other words, I don't like this character, so these episodes were endless to me. But I guess it's ok to give him focus episodes. And he was sweet at the end. | Boring mini arc. I predicted a funny ending with Urara x Okita and Kirara x Hijikata, but Kirara was a crazy dyke in this episode. The reason why I pair Kirara with Hijikata before this episode was due to the written letter. But damn she crazy and EMO! |

| That was a really good arc. We needed to expand Shinpachi a little bit and that's what this arc did. I hope Kagura wil get an arc soon. If i remember Kagura has a brother and some guy with an umbrella is in the new OP so it's most likely him. |

| This was a rather lame arc, IMO. I have to disagree with the majority of the people in this thread. I never felt any emotions while watching this episode, as the drama felt forced. Shy glasses girl that we've only seen for a few moments in the previous two episodes suddenly turns into suicidal glasses girl in less than ten minutes, so when she jumped off the building it didn't really feel as dramatic as it was made out to be. Gin defies the laws of physics (not in the cool way) and sprints down the side of the building, somehow managing to beat gravity, and catches the girl. Here's the best part though. Guess what? It turns out that she was actually planning to make Shinpachi rescue her by jumping off the roof of what appears to be at least a twelve story building. Riiiiight... By the way, have you ever heard the story about the man who met his wife by throwing himself in front of a moving vehicle and hoping that a girl would somehow save him? If you haven't, it's because it never happened. Yeah. Then after that's finished, cue the cheesy "feel good" scene with Kirara and Shinpachi, who is now standing on the building across the street acting like he completely and totally understands everything that just happened on the roof. Because you know, somehow Shinpachi already knew she was going to attempt suicide, and according to Gin he had also known that she was the one writing the letters all along, even though his previous behavior completely contradicted that. "We can finally correspond the way we should, Kirara." That was fairly ironic considering he's communicating by writing on paper with magic marker and holding it up so she can see it through the broken window across the street. This kind of drama has never been in my tastes. If the whole arc was like this, I'd be fine with it as I could pass it off as just being a bad arc. However, this one was especially lame because the previous two episodes were actually really good. And the beginning of this one was great too, but then that last scene just spoiled it. It just really didn't sit well with me. |

| When Gin-san jumped off the building, it was so epic. When Shinpachii was communicating from the other building, it was really touching. I liked how they started talking about random thing when she was about to jump xD They can be so cruel sometime :P |

| that fucked up masochistic little sister...yeah I think that's supposed to be a "joke" 'cause this is a gag anime and all that shit but it's just annoying how her personality turned upside-down.. you think romance is a game? Sougou getting the the pink haired chick is not funny.. I don't know why but things like this is hard to take as a "joke". Gintama's been blending comedy, drama, and other serious stuff all in one and they're doing a great job so far.. until this arc. |

| This mini arc was really not my favorite... don't get me wrong, I loved the humor when they were all figuring out what to write for the letters, however, the girl irritated the heck outta me. | I don't really know where does the criticism come from, to be honest. The arc gives hints everywhere that Shinpachi ends up realizing who the writer is by himself... heck, he even forgets about Urara at that point. On the other hand, it was extreme of the sister to go suicidal but precisely that was the point. She is a delusional girl. She is probably influenced by romantic dramas where the love interest saves the lady in an extreme situation... this was such a typical, clichéd and soap opera-like conclusion it didn't fit the theme of the story at all, Kirara had to confront reality. It was necessary that this conclusion was deconstructed to make the character grow. Gintoki understands this perfectly and steals the hero role for that purpose. The signs thing was sweet, it was a nice and open-ended conclusion (that looks extremely similar to the contemporary short Signs, by the way, I wonder if this episode was produced before or after), and more importantly, one that finally made Kirara stand and look at reality leaving her delusions aside. It is not my favorite arc, but I think it develops its points very well. The comedy is spot on and the drama is consistantly developed and has a clever background. It's the first time I see this series play a serious approach on its very common self-awareness card. |

Gintama is good for its comedy, the action arcs are incredibly average. No, under average. Also, this comes after a chain of awful episodes. I really enjoyed these episodes, finally. |

| This arc was fantastic. The Kirara x Shinpachi part was touching, I'm happy for them. I really appreciated to watch an arc about Shinpachi, the comedy was here and the sweet moments too, great arc. |
