| Okay I didn't expect another LGBTQ show this soon but I'm not against this. They're already telling you she is gay without hiding it. Now let's see if we can avoid the fetish porn a lot of yaoi and yuri end up being. Let's hope this is written by someone who isn't jerking off at the fact girls kissing is a thing. Even though our main bad girl here kind of legit sexual assaults her. That is kind of not cool no matter how you spin it. Magia Baiser....what the hell is that from? Also, while I hate ecchi the writing and the plot is really carrying the show for me. Also Ventlia is legit a fucking vibe man. I love this fucking asshole liar. |

| God the way Utena can flip flop so well between girl failure and girl boss is actually amazing. Seeing her back out of villainous acts, but also make the absolute most out of the opportunity to be villainous in her own way to the magical girls trio is hilarious. She is also unironically good at escaping and in her defence, the art of escape is an art non the less. Ngl I got a really good laugh at Sayo's post reaction to those events, Utena unironically rewiring her brain after that experience. Man i didn't expect Utena to actually come up with a name on the spot, and a good one at that. When she's in her magical girl mode not only does she get more freaky but also a lot more bad ass and serious. I'm not gonna lie, i fully fell for Venalita's speech about a world full of mascots and their race being kicked out and such, i thought the show was gonna throw in an actual semi serious plot point that would be a good end game goal but nah. Fool me once i guess. End scene i'm assuming hints at the reveal of Utena's ally, interested to see what their interactions with Utena will be like considering the ED makes Utena and her allies pretty wholesome. |

| @EcchiGodMamster Agree, about 10 years ago or so, full nudes on tv were a thing (the most recent one i remember was also Dragonar Academy), now we have black bars, holy lights, steam when we are lucky, otherwise they completely erase whole scenes from the source material. Today publishers and animators are forced to watering down adaptions to please foreigners to be globally palatable. =_= @gannoncannon55 :D :D :D Indeed. |

Wow Utena is really discovering and giving into a part of herself she didn't know before. This anime is a lot deeper than I thought it would be, and can be a metaphor for how unknown / new parts of our sexuality can seem bad and something to resist when first being discovered. Bondage isn't inherently evil, but it feels that way to Utena. She is trying to resist it, but is slowly giving in as she realizes how much she enjoys it.

| As a manga reader the ecchi scenes in the anime are great, but everything else in the anime is plain and there almost no animation at all... What a shame... this first fight with sulfur alone was suppouse to be really cool but it was bland AF in the anime. |

@TheColonel76 yea this manga actually has a pretty decent story considering it's a fanservice ecchi. The S&M play ties in their relationship moving forward as the magical girls work to get stronger and overcome the "hardships" and "defeat'" thrown at them while Utena wants to play the role of the classic "villain boss" because she basically only wants to torment them in her S play. It's like the classic saturday afternoon cartoon villain who comes to do something bad, and doesn't actually try to efficiently finish off the heroes even with plenty of opportunities to do so after surprise attacks.
She just wants to watch them resist and overcome in the end. So even when she wins or has many chances to finish them off, she just runs away, and also gets turned on when they overcome their struggle or reveal they've gotten stronger. She basically wants to torture them with her S play, watch them struggle or temporarily surrender, then retreat whether she wins or not. This leads to 1 of them overcoming things pretty early in the story, which we may or not see the result toward the end of the season.
The reason I'm worried is because they seem to be going 2 chapters per episode and I'm not sure how they'd be able to fit a proper season finale since chapter 24 isn't really fitting for that (though chapter 23 definitely had one of the best fanservice moments for me since they showed a very erotic scene that's straight up hentai involving my favorite girl Sulfur/Kaoruko). I hope they don't skip any content and add too many anime originals to adapt the story properly, maybe being able to fit 1 more chapter for some episodes that way. Another worry for that is, you'd only get enough character development for Azul/Azure, but not much for Sulfur yet and pretty much nothing for Magenta.

| This show... hewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww boy It's UNCENSORED- if you're not watching it yet there I just gave you a reason. It has a really interesting idea, The Tres Magia are adorable, I love them. They're proud like MG's should be and always do nice things for people. I get the criticism that SM is supposed to be voluntary, and at least here the girls are shown afterward being more... confused and weirded by their encounters with Utena and not like traumatized. It was so sweet when Utena said her wax melts at a lower temperature... so she's obviously not wanting to hurt them.I loved it when Ms Sulfur said "Oh I get it so you're a FREAK" hahahaha Yup. Nailed it. Utena is a really perfect villain, she's the opposite of the Magia- reluctant, cowardly, lacks confidence, has not good motives. is confused. The whole thing with them saying there's magic protecting their identities is dumb- why not just have them not recognize each other for no reason like in the old days- it would be more humorous. |

ngl, I originally picked up this series for the controversial aspects and as of the second episode I haven't heard a Peeps from Twitter/X. It's hella surprising and I'm not sure where I'll fall by end of season. The art and sound took a dip this episode but that's to be expected. Favorite moment was probably leaving the trail of S&M mags at the shrine like oouh piece of candy bait. See you guys next week.
