When Suzaku (dressed as Zero) kills LeLouch, I feel like it was meant to show that Zero is not a person, but a role given to the one who fights for freedom. Suzaku becoming the new Zero was LeLouch passing on his legacy to him.

Ngl for me it was a trash ending

lelouch didn't only claimed the throne , he also acquired too much hatred. So lelouch let himself be killed , that there wouldn't be any hatred towards dead lelouch and Britannia.
