| So...who exactly died? Battler's two parents, Krauss, Shannon, the cook, and who is the 6th one? Besides that, this was a very piecy, and slightly corny episode. Maria reading the letter was cheesy, and so was Battler's reaction to the death. The conversation between Battler and his mom about the chessboard seemed totally illogical trying to be passed off as sound intelligence. I think I'm mostly annoyed by the episode, but I remain hopeful that more will make sense with each episode. |

| Having no previous knowledge about this series before watching the first 2 episodes I must say it's got my interest and it seems well done so far. Kinda sucks so many people got killed off that fast, I'm guessing there won't be more than one or two left in the end if they're taking that many out in only the second episode though. |

| OMG dam sry for the ppl who died but for what purpose were the faces cut off? i mean is it to make it not possible to identify them by thier face , only by thier clothing? so what if it wasnt them? | If anything else, this thread's confirming that ignorance is definite bliss for people like me who haven't gone for the VN or the manga. Also, people with questions really need to read the whole discussion thread, it's already been stated (thanks to the people who answered before) that the person most of the watchers are missing out the six who died is Rosa, Maria's mother. I'm probably a bit odd in that I keep all characters names and info on hand in a Notepad file while I watch, but I am really enjoying this adaptation so far. It feels very much the same way watching Onikakushi-hen from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni did. I'm sad that Rosa died, having her change from literally beating her daughter to a much more caring and grateful mother made me like her all the more, and now she's dead. From a general viewpoint, though, I think watching Higurashi kind of warped the experience a bit. I already knew that someone was going to die, and continually thought: "Ah, Kanon's dead. No, wait, it's probably this person." Up until the deaths actually occurred, at which point I doubled back because the gore was a there-and-gone part on the mutilated faces. The proposal scene did seem a bit rushed and misplaced, but the George's concept of wearing the ring or not the next day was a nice one. Made me think George was on the cutting block, not Shannon, but alas I was wrong. Why does the sincere and innocent maid have to die? In the same respect, I really feel sympathetic to Natsuhi's character now after the scene where Jessica hands her the scorpion charm, and I wonder if that actually comes into play. OP and ED are really growing on me, I love the parts where the vocals seem to "cry out", fits the anime title as well. I'm interested to see if Beatrice's character turns out to be just plain evil, or if she actually has a backstory to her the way Takano did in Higurashi. Seeing as how a good part of the thread is complaining about how some of the characters are underdeveloped and cut off, makes me want to read the manga or play the VN after the season. After the season because right now I'm really having fun watching this, and I don't want it spoiled by these feelings all the more informed people seem to be experiencing. The discussion about the BGM is interesting as well, if anyone can link to some place where I can find more information on the music behind Umineko no Naku Koro ni I'd much appreciate it. |

Although I'm glad we've finally got the introductions out of the way and are moving on to the "Ten Little Soldiers" gig, it also goes to show that the first episode was rushed since there wasn't enough time spent introducing the characters for me to remember any of them. I really have no idea who died besides Shannon. So, 12 left now. I'll refrain from speculation since this is an 07th Expansion, cause based on Higurashi, it would be totally normal if it was revealed that the killer is an invisible squid monster from space. Anyway, looking forward to the next episode. |
