| I think the reason that girl couldn't summon the strongest one was because she had power and knowledge and didn't really need her. And that guy probably just got lucky. |

| Summoning was possible without Shiro's knowledge because Servants were brought to that world by Grail's power. He summoned >her< because of his own personality I love that scene :> |

| It's an anime... but hey this Second episode was worthwhile.... Now I know it was a great decision to start watching Fate after I got a hold of this particular episode... So then this SHirou guy really has the powers to summon a servant... A Servant that ended up being the strongest of all them? Really.... Okay people I'm confused... | Whoa this is like the first shounen harem that I've seen where all the girls aren't wearing the skimpiest ass clothing. I mean look at what I suppose is the main girl, Saber's wearing. Its like freakin Joan of Arc status XD I like it, though. They should keep this up |

| First of all fuck the VN, I absolutely hate it when people bring that, or a manga version, up in a discussion for the anime. Also, the "it's an anime" excuse really doesn't fly for me. I think events should make sense within the world that the anime takes place in. That said, this is only the second episode and there is plenty of time for things to be cleared up. | so I expected that this would be another annoying shounen but wow, I'm impressed. And the main character seems like a nice balance between not too whimpy and not too full of himself, which is a rare thing. Everything else seems awesome. I hope it continues like this. |

| The Saber summoning is still pretty awesome. Rewatching it in 720p here. And Emiya is not annoying to me at all. His main issue is he is too idealistic, and he needs to fit that in with real life. I respect his struggle over his ideals though, as I used to be that idealistic myself. |

| Interesting that Emiya, with virtually zero magic power, was able to summon the strongest of the Servants while Rin, despite having all her knowledge, couldn't. This show seems alright so far, with some very nice artwork and character designs. Hopefully it'll turn out to be more than the average shonen series. |

This episode reminds me of linebarrel. The main character gets a second chance in life to maybe accomplish something they didn't while they were still alive. And apparently, they always get the strongest of the strong. |

Here I am around 3 years later, a proud fan of the visual novel I denounced. In retrospect, I see why some people brought it up as I do think the reasons highlighted in those spoilers for Rin not summoning Saber and Shirou doing so are pretty damn important. Why they left it out? I dunno. Anyway, I didn't enjoy this episode all that much. Watching it now, the fight scenes seem very cheaply made and scenes such as Rin saving Shirou felt blazed through at a rapid pace and just didn't ring true. I also, dislike the (mostly) different music and as it feels like a large downgrade from the VN. |

Well, this is an anime after all. just caught it the random magic circle has been there since the day when Iri from fate/zero was laying there waiting to die. i believe it was in season 2 episode 8 after i realized this = mind blown Also Rin never tried to summon the heroic spirit |
