I thought it's an interesting episode with the sci-fi and eerie vibes.

Rouge Redstar is one of the protagonists along with her partner Naomi. What's interesting is the setting with the futuristic look and technology involving androids. Both main characters are also interesting given their origins. Hope we can learn more about both. Music and animation looks sharp and it seems this is Bone's project to celebrate their work. Music and soundtrack is pretty good for this show too imo.

Remember Spring 2019's Carole and Tuesday? That was Studio Bones' 20th Anniversary show created by famed director Shinichirou Watanabe...done to decency for being unnecessarily stretched.

And 5 years later, we're back with Bones' Quarter Century 25th Anniversary show of action sci-fi show Metallic Rouge, headed by the same director of C&T and Super Crooks's Motonobu Hori, this time with RapXephon creator Yutaka Izubuchi as both series composer and chief supervisor, alongside studio co-founder and director-cum-character-designer Toshihiro Kawamoto.

In a world of humans and androids, with the ever so graceful Carole & Tuesday influence (such as the futuristic setting and singing), there exists Rouge Redstar being an assistant for the club's diva Sarah Fitzgerald, who's suddenly targeted by a mysterious red Gladiator, and her buddy of Naomi Orthmann operating the robot bird vying communications between both human and Nean, who thrive on Nectar to survive.

The girls' intended target of Sarah, whose true colours is Purgatory Viola Keane of the Immortal Nine, yet another Nean working with Alters like the Vash-like Fate Jeron, requests a secret duel with her. The only variable is Hell Giallon who'd been researching with Viola to take out the red Gladiator, which is confirmed to be Metal Rouge.

Lots of potential here, though subtle for now.

Bones original looking good so far. I hope they don't ruin it with unnecessary annoying side characters.
Does this feel a little hollywood-y to anyone?

This is the surprise of this season, an original sci-fi anime. The way the story move is quite mature (reminds me of Super Crooks, Bone's adaptation of American comic book).
The music is also on point, especially in the battle scene. I check that it doesn't have just one, but three composers working on this.
Overall, the technical part get flying pass from me, now waiting for the whole story to come together.

so they are in mars planet

no plot reveal yet other than there are 9 immortal androids that metal rouge will kill it seems and she is an android herself too

action is cool

i still hate the dark and washout colors they choose for this show though it makes the sakuga action kinda hard to see

finally a first episode that doesnt have annoying exposition and makes it seem like the world didnt exists before this episode. been a while since ive seen an episode like this.
I hope it keeps the story telling and develops the plot in a natural way.
The backgrounds could be a bit more immersive but aside from that the plot and characters instantly hooked me

Interesting world building and it's a brutal world. Cool looking battle armors and action. I do wonder why the main duo is after the immortal nine, maybe they commited some sin in the past? Rouge and Naomi are both cute btw. Sarah was beautiful but alas she died already. OP song was nice.

Honestly rather disappointed in that premiere. Script felt super dry and the pacing was really awkward. Didn't feel like there was a ton to grab on to. Some of that's probably intentional but it needs to fix it real fast regardless to keep me on board.

Aaand the final anime for today. There is sure a lot airing on Wednesday. Now let's see what Bones cooked up for their 25th anniversary. I also heard that this is planned to become a whole franchise.
I feel like there is way too few sci-fi anime these days, so I'm really excited for this one.

Rouge looks beautiful
So this is the type of story where they tell you stuff as it progresses. There is a ton of things we don't know right now, but it seems interesting. I'm thinking that Nean aren't actually a different race, but humans that are just a bit different somehow (genetically being less suted to Mars?).
And the visuals are absolute fire. The music is pretty epic too.

EDIT: From the trailers, Neans are actually androids.

i was itching for an over the top action sequence from Studio Bones but i don't know if they fell off or just too constricted. I probably was too overhyped from an Original first episode. Reminded me of something like Sirius the Jaeger. but damn their comp work is improving, not a fan of the fire effects but the first thigh shot of orthmann and rouge lying down was movie level.
Maybe 2D Mecha is too much of a hurdle frame by frame.

I like how bones original animes instead of doing info dumps about the world, they slowly show you what it's about, it kinda adds a little mystery which I absolutely love

And this was no different, I really liked the surreal feeling of it, and of course amazingly animated fight scenes by bones, you can never go wrong with bones in that

And finally getting more of this kind of sci-fi is always welcome, anime doesn't have much of those, cyberpunk had that (but it turned into quite the clusterfrick in all aspects, hoping this doesn't do the same)

All and all, this has gotten me hooked

@Inexplicable If you're making these conclusions just based on the poster, then I'm afraid it's wishful thinking on the level of "they're close so they're gay." The official website describes MC as having the personality of a 10-year-old child. But this is only the first episode, who knows?

Personally, I'm interested in something else. Why is the show so harshly receiving such negative score even though people in the comments seem to love it and why is everyone praising the lack of exposition so much when the writers promised in interviews that it would have a pretty big world with a ton of interesting themes and potential for universe building. Or is this a similar case of Licorice Recall where blind spots were deliberately left in the plot for potential story development?

Muraki Circus in Bones TV anime after 12 fucking years. Bruh

2D mecha porn and cracked ost, just all you need. The dialogue and the interactions between the main leads is so much better than what the PV made it seem like.

I kinda see where the plot might go on from here :

The last 2 PVs also somewhat shows Rouge questioning the state.

I also wonder if the two people she killed before would be shown as a flashback or will be a separate story in the Metallic Rouge universe.

Cool

Bones's 25th anniversary anime sure is looking full of potential. Every single line of dialogue and detail looks important. From the way each character reacts to the different races in this cyberpunk society to alusions to a previous conflict the Nine tribe Viola belongs to seems to have been a part of. It has a bit of comedy, some of somberness and all in all an immersive world that I want to see how will be expanded on in this season.

Rogue got me about to act up 😩 the girls are definitely hot in this one, but I’m pretty confused by what’s going on story wise. I think they introduced a lot of stuff in this episode that was kind of overwhelming at times but from what I gather there’s 9 immortal androids we’re going to see Metallic Rogue take on?

The setting and characters were good so far. I didn’t know these were the same people behind Carole and Tuesday so that explains the singing set up at the beginning.

Liked the two leads’ chemistry a lot. Their first meeting in the bar where Rogue repeats the sentence like 3x was hilarious. The action was great as well. The world feels like it’s buzzing and alive which is a plus. Hopefully they can continue to expand upon it. Nice start to this.

Didn't love it, didn't hate it.
I think the first episode tried to introduce too many things at once in so little time and end it with a cool fight scene just to satisfice the audience.

We were given lots of names, alliances or groups, and barely know anything about the world and I was like "uh huh...". Like, I'm being told to care, why not make me care by showing me? Why are these androids fighting? I had to assume setting stuff from Detroit: Become Human and Cyberpunk 2077 because the show didn't bother doing it in this first episode. I know 22min is little time but some other studios have released more than 1 episode on the premiere to pad that (Re:Zero, or Frieren, for example)

The waifus are cute, that's good, but I need more than this haha.
I won't drop this since it's not bad, at all, but I need it to get better. This will probably be a 24 ep original anime so there's room for improvement.

Aside from our two leads this episode didn't really introduce too much about this world, but I'm fine with that. This seems like it'll be the type of show where things slowly unravel over time before the big picture is finally revealed. If that's the case then I'm fine with incremental worldbuilding.

I'm liking the vibes and the production so far (as expected of Bones), now let's see where the story is going.

I'm glad that the score is slowly going up because a 6.7 is outta pocket lol. There's a lot of potential here and I truly believe this can be a standout this season. My biggest gripe is that this episode was just too short. Not only that, but it didn't feel like a first episode. Instead, it felt like the third or fourth in an already-established story. In the end, I was left with more questions than answers. However, I am curious to see where the story goes from here.

@HumbertoZero Honestly one of the reasons i liked this episode a lot is exactly because it didnt explain a lot of it. Sort of felt like an episode 2 rather than a 1. Makes the world feel more believable rather than a story being told to the audience as you feel its all have been there before this first episode. Of course I imagine the upcoming episodes will fix that of course, but even then i really do appreciate this approach.

Oh great. Another quirky villain that acts over the top. I hope they don't bungle his motives, whatever they may be.

It felt like there's a bit of time wasting with some scenes, like when Rouge fell in that corridor.

The theme is also overt af. "What's the difference between us and humans?" I swear if this show goes the juvenile way of Detroit: Become Human I'm gonna flip out. Heck, the main duo might just fill the roles of Hank and Connor.

Hot take: That Scarhead worker guy deserved to die. Idk mate. Maybe if something is so important that you'd die within a day of not having it, maybe you should keep it in your pocket. Does he not have a reserve one at home or somewhere that he can rush to to save his own life? Maybe the evil humans keep distributing 1 to each working android when they need it to keep them in control. If the thing sells for a fortune, how much does it cost to run all these androids on Mars?

As somewhere in past on forums [AD/CD] people wanted predictions and just based on Visual Key I said that Metalic Rouge will be top/hidden gem, thankfully it seems like it will hit that spot if it keeps in this way.
Bones artstyle vibing towards Carole and Tuesday which was a good anime, maybe it might be similar to newer stuff which I haven't followed.

Plot - Let it Build.
Music - good one, the vocal insert during the fight sounded like Sawano's stuff which is a good sign.
Animation - So far it is nice, fights could be better, but that's the only part I can nitpick so far.
Cyberpunk + Psycho-Pass + Gatchaman Crowds style.

I hope it will keep better, some questions but revealing everything in episode 1 wouldn't motivate to watch the rest of 11 episodes if you have all answers are beginning.

Didn't feel super excited by the end of the first episode, but the soundtrack and animation is beautiful. I'm also getting S.CRY.ed and Bubblegum Crisis 2040 vibes from the powersuits the characters use whenever there's a Blade Runner-esque showdown. Either way I'm on board as of now. There's very little sci-fi this season so it's a nice change of pace compared to a lot of the other stuff I'm watching rn

@Mainnus Agree. By far the most interesting show start this season. Old school cast into the action inmediately and then suddenly start giving you bits and pieces. It's going to be one of those shows that's not gonna do well in MAL tho. The show don't tell kind of storytelling doesn't fly with the crowd here who like having detailed dialogues and exposition or non stop action with fluid animation in between.

As visual concept this is Eureka Seven + Vivy + Cowboy Bebop kind of a thing. Looks nice, but the déjà vu is killing me.
Add the worldbuilding and the story coming nonsensical, the characters being cardboard cutouts and my deep disappointment this being power armour, not mecha show (the poster tricked me to think that).
I mean, I will follow this for several episodes, but so far it is like Super Sentai title, but without the fun adventure parts.

As one of my most anticipated shows of the season, the 25th anniversary show for Studio Bones, I do feel that this missed the mark a little for me, but that's not to say it was a bad premiere by any means. I'll start with the positives and that would be the designs, visuals and music, which were very sharp, and fits the futuristic setting well.

However, the villain, Jaron, was pretty bland, as were some of the other attempts at characterization, especially with Sarah. The premise itself isn't unique at all, another one of those humans and android coexisting/discrimination stories. It'll have to do a lot to stand out from the crowd, but it's only the beginning, and as this is an anime original, there is potential to make this more interesting, and I'm almost certain it will get better from here. Let's hope it doesn't let me down.

The first episode didn't bring anything very fresh, and I can't help but find it a bit derivative of other cyberpunk media so far. I hope they do bring new ideas to the table when it comes to the humans v.s. androids trope.

The animation is good, and I like the character design. Rouge reminds me a bit of characters such as Kanade Tachibana from Angel Beats / Mayuri Shiina from Steins;Gate

@Mcsuper I agree completely with you. I felt like this episode followed the human-android conflict trope too closely. I really hope we start seeing more twists to this formula in the following episodes!
