| Every week (at least when the series isn't on break) y'all make these threads earlier and earlier for clout once a tiny scrap of a spoiler leaks and every time we get people asking when the chapter was released. Jesus Christ. The fact that we're still dealing with the miserable Kuma flashback is insane. It's been one of the worst flashbacks in living memory and one of the worst parts of post-timeskip period. It's bad enough that it has the usual sob story and emotional manipulation to get us to sympathize with characters, but it follows the same formula as the rest of the previous flashbacks. It's tiresome especially with the 2-3 week winter break coming up... |
| Showing us the pre timeskip events from Kuma's POV as build up to his demise was extremely effective. God damn, I didn't expect the scene to hit as hard as it did. Kuma's life illustrated by panels of the people dear to him and him on the run was too powerul 😭 It beautifully captured what a tragic hero Kuma was. Yet despite all he went through he didn't stop smiling. Poor Bonney. Finnaly we get to see her reaction upon learning the whole truth. Fun fact it's the last chapter of the year and we saw her standing in front of the memories at the beginning of it, in the second chapter of 2023 to be precise. Would've been even cooler if it was the first one, but it is what it is. Now that Bonney touched them we know for certain that Kuma's memories are forever gone and that he won't come back(I honestly would've liked it better if they returned to Kuma after the touch) |

| Damn this is just....really really sad. Kuma definitely has one of the saddest flashbacks now. Just read the chapter and wow....I actually teared up a bit at the end, not gonna lie. Kuma didn't deserve any of this shit. Dude can't even just have a happy life with his daughter. This has skyrocketed into top 5 saddest OP backstories for me. Sadness aside, I loved seeing so many significant events throughout the story from Kuma's POV. Besides showing his tragic life, something I really appreciated about this flashback was how it connected so many different parts of the story. | looks like the flashback is finally over and what a way to end what is one of the very best flashbacks in the series. we get to see luffy's journey and key moments like arlong park, thriller bark, saobody and more through the eyes of kuma and get that extra perspective. we also see how kuma's memories were preserved, how vegapunk was the one who programmed him to protect the straw hats ship for those 2 years because kuma is confident luffy is the one who will save the world and a bit into bonney's pirate journey until now. what an amazing chapter, and what an amazing backstory for kuma |
| Overall I still like the Law and Oden flashback more.. this was great and emotional flashback nonetheless but it lost some steam after Bonney's mom died Imo I wished that it would flesh out the revolutionary (which is my favorite faction in the story) way more like how the Roger pirates where fleshed out more during the oden flashback...most of the revolutionary stuff is just Dragon gazing at the sea. But Oda need to blue ball more I guess so till then ill just say that Dragon is a fraud and Fisher Tiger is the real 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 |

| Fuck me this broke me a little bit. Legit holding back tears. I'd been fine for most of this backstory but damn this ending hit me in the feels. Mannnn it looks like Bonney touched the memories directly too, so there's no chance of Kuma re-gaining his memories :( (unless we get a nice miracle - Kuma IS moving on his own right now after all) Apart from the sadness, this chapter was awesome too!! LOVED seeing Kuma's reactions to the Straw Hats as they progressed. Especially the Sabaody part (protecting Hachi). Also LMAO at Usopp falling on the CD's head XD absolute gold moment What's cool is now Bonney has seen all these hype Straw Hat moments. Her sudden change towards the crew and Vegapunk totally makes sense now Sabo always holding newspapers in these damn flashbacks makes it even more unlikely that he never saw Ace or Luffy XD c'mon now |

| holy shit, oda. seems like its the end and a painfully beautiful end to one of the best backstories in all of one piece, which is already a sea of amazing backstories. so that's saying a lot. love seeing how this backstory and kuma ties into the rest of the story and all those pre-timeskip moments like zoro's sacrifice and kuma at sabaody annihilating the strawhats, for a good reason. dragon really went to loguetown confirmed as well. amazing chapter to end the year on, great year for the manga yet again and oda absolutely cooked on every single chapter. all hits, no misses. |

Excellent chapter to end Kuma's backstory. Oda knows how to write a tragic backstory, Kuma lived for others. He was completely selfless in all of his actions, from taking care of Bonney to joining the revolutionaries, he did all of it for the people around him. Vegapunk says it best; |

| This chapter really destroyed me emotionally... I just can't hold back my tears after reading the last 2 pages. T_T This is my favorite backstory in One Piece so far. It encompasses a majority of big events from the past 40 years of the One Piece world and all of them were told from Kuma's life. Kuma still holds firmly his belief of the existence of Nika, from his childhood all the way to his last moment before his individuality has been wiped out in agreement with Saturn. We have seen so many familiar characters from Kuma's backstory. We have even seen Luffy's first rise as a pirate with a bounty of 30 million in East Blue. I love how all of this is connected to Kuma's strong faith in Nika. But those last 2 pages are what truly destroyed me, though... Vegapunk, Sentoumaru, and those scientists in Egghead respect Kuma so much in his sacrifice of giving up his own individuality. Bless this man. The memory bubble would disappear if somebody else touches it. So now that Bonney has touched it, she has seen everything from Kuma's point of view, his life, and his undying faith in Nika, but the entire memory bubble is now gone so there's nothing left that can be returned back to Kuma. I guess that's it for Kuma and there's no more happy ending for him. :( I cried from reading this chapter. Maybe someday in the anime, I hope Toei can animate this into something truly special with the appropriate sad music, just like the Going Merry's viking funeral and also the death of Ace in Marineford. Kuma's backstory is a monumental flashback and the anime only viewers won't be expecting anything of this magnitude. |
