Are there any anime's similar to this but more focused on the horror aspect

Watamote was a pretty fun anime to watched, but in my opinion it would have been better as a psychological thriller about the terrors that being antisocial bring. (It's no surprise then that my favorite anime of all time is Evangelion)

For instance, the whole tea party scene where she envisions creating a club only to wake up and find herself surrounded by stuffed animals was intended to be funny, but it could have been absolutely terrifying if spun right.

Are there any shows that do this well?
