Killing yourself because you are forced to marry a super rich Duke? Man she was spoiled af. All he did was kiss her hand. LOL

I was expecting him to impregnate her or something... but only a kiss? on her hand?
.... and she killed herself? Hahahaha

Sad that Rosalie was too weak to kill the bitch that murdered the woman who raised her, but then again it was her actual birth mother that did it..

We didnt get to see the fucking whore (aka the queen) this episode...

Anyone know the name of the moody progressive rock piece in this episode? I listened to the entire three disc soundtrack and didn't find it. Guessing it's by a band instead of the composer.

Edit: Tried a few different music identification sites with no luck. Here's a 14 second clip.

This episode really was one of the best for many reasons, but also one of the hardest to watch. So many tragedies...
I felt Rosalie so strongly at the end, I even got some tears coming out of my eyes. And overall, this episode really made me love her, I mean I already liked her a lot but here she really proved herself to be a great character.
And even aside from Rosalie, Charlotte's suicide was heartbreaking. Poor girl didn't deserve that. And to think those disgusting things actually happened in real life...
Also, I didn't expect to feel bad for Mme Polignac, but I did. I mean, it's awful to think that if the woman she killed didn't turn out to be Nicole, she wouldn't have cared at all, but still, her breakdown was hard to watch (that voice acting was so good). And of course I feel horrible for her now, having lost her daughter like that, and because of her too (she really was willing to let the duke to whatever he wanted to her daughter).

But that's part of why I love this show : the characters are so multidimensional and feel so real, human, that even when I think I wouldn't care if something happened to them, I still end up feeling bad when it actually happens (well aside from characters like Charlotte's "ex-future husband" who can just die, I'm sure I wouldn't care). I had the same feeling when Du Barry got exiled and I'm totally expecting to feel that again.
One thing though : I was a bit disappointed there hasn't been any follow-up to Marie-Antoinette's and Fiersen's relationship. That said, judging by next episode's title, I might just be too impatient... Well, I'll see. After all it's not the show's thing to leave out such important details.

Fucked as it sounds, Polignac practically begged for that to happen by giving her daughter to a fucking nonce like that. Even if Charlotte hadn't taken her life, who knows what that freak would've done to her.

Roseline is Oscar 2.0 ..
Poligree is still unforgivable ,, pimping her 11 year old daughter off like that ...

though the arthouse of the first 12 episodes may not be the same ,, I can feel the quality of the story increasing from here

Bruh the way this episode just kept twisting and twisting,,,

Also poor Charlotte, I know that creepy fiance only kissed her hand, but it was probably a metaphor for sexual assault. Polignac should've listened to her daughter.

What a spectacular tragedy, the scene were Rosalie tried to kill Polignac was terrific.

Oscar thinking the passing of time could have persuaded Rosalie of giving up on her revenge is so funny to me.

French revolution happened in the 18th century if I'm not wrong.

I swear I didn't expect to see a suicide scene at all. Especially since it was Madame Polignac's daughter.

I already don't care about the other antagonists.. Duke Orleans, Jeanne.. I'm going to crown Madame Polignac as the worst here. She even sold her daughter to a pedophile! Even though I don't like Charlotte, she's only 11 years old! Gosh, 11 years old.. just getting an 11 years old girl married is scary, let alone marrying a perverted old man who's almost half a century old!! That's terrifying. I'm getting goosebumps as I wrote this.

Not only that, she also abandoned Rosalie and (accidentally) killed Rosalie's adoptive mother without sending an apology. She had trapped Marie into sins, made her first daughter miserable and sold her second daughter into suicide. The madness didn't stop there, but after she realized her mistakes all she did was ask God for help. It was so funny, rather than being a noblewoman it seemed she needed to be a comedian.

If Madame Polignac didn't die a horrible death then the entire sanity of French people at that time must be questioned.

I had a bad feeling about this episode when I clicked play but man was that more intense than I expected. I think this marks the end of Polignac being an antagonist but it sucks that it comes at the expense of Charlotte.

best episode so far. my jaw was on the floor the entire time. first, I wasn't expecting this show to dive into the pedophilia of the ruling class and just how common it was. literally everybody knew the count was into kids and accepted it, only condemning it in whispers. then the reveal that Polignac was Rosalie's mother. it made me understand the symbolism of how everything was set up with her mom and Jeanne compared to Polignac and Charolette. then Rosalie's character growth is on full display followed by one last Charlotte crushing hard on Oscar before she takes her own life in the most draw dropping moment of the series so far. this show is incredible and I'm so glad I'm watching it. I can't wait to see where it goes from here

@Amatniki Bruh... Do you just have no form of empathy at all? Laughing at the suicide of an 11 year old girl, because she didn't want to marry a 43 year old?

She was 11 years old, and about to be forced to marry a 43 year old man. And you call her spoiled for not wanting to be married to a paedo?
Obviously, the rose symbolism means that she wanted to avoid the fate that would happen when they married. (hint: you have to consummate the marriage). She wanted to stay pure. You're calling her spoiled because she wanted to avoid the fate that her mother cruelly bestowed upon her?

Rosalie was too weak to kill her mother? Bruh... Do you just not possess any human emotions? Or understanding of the human brain? Polignac is very trash, but obviously Rosalie is going to hesitate to kill her birth mother. If you're looking for a shallow revenge porn, then you're watching the wrong anime.

@MoonPhos It likely was. She kept saying that she wanted to stay as pure as that rose, but someone on here pointed out that before she jumped off, a part of the petal broke off. Though even then, it could likely be the realization that when she married him, they would have to consummate the marriage. So she likely wanted to die before that happened (assuming it wasn't a metaphor for sexual assault). Either way, it was a very tragic moment. I know that Polignac is a social climber, but that is just beyond fucked.

Polignac is the best villain of this anime, but one of the worst people in this anime (I refuse to see her as worse than an actual pedophile, but she's close behind him for essentially selling her daughter to that man). She is seriously depraved, though she shows just how far people are willing to go to social climb. She even tried to sell her 11 year old daughter off to a pedophile. Though we should've known from the start. A lot of the women at Marie's ball were whispering about how Charlotte was only 11, yet Polignac still dolled her up for the ball. That's a red flag that stayed in the back of my head, but I didn't linger on it for too long. The other drama was distracting, and it was a thing that was only said in passing. Yet to actually marry her off to that sick man? For the sake of being the mother of a Duchess? Her mother laughing at the man telling perverted jokes was bone chilling. Polignac has some depth and isn't just morally black, but I can't really feel sympathy for her. She's a terrible person overall, and she brought a lot of grief on herself. I mostly feel bad for her daughters, and Rosalie's mother, who were all victims of her BS.

Charlotte has it hard. Wanting to keep her purity, and not wanting to be forced to marry a man. At the best, which is still fucked, the kiss was just a kiss. Though she realized what would happen when they married, so she wanted to die before her purity was taken. The worst case scenario is that the kiss was a metaphor for something much worse, and that set her off the deep end. Either way, poor Charlotte.

Rosalie is in a tough spot. Wanting revenge on the person who killed your mother, and had no empathy for killing her, should be straight forward. Yet Polignac is her birth mother. Even if Rosalie claimed to not care about her blood relatives, that was obviously a lie. I felt so bad when she broke down and cried that her little sister died. That's hands down the saddest moment in this anime, and one of the saddest moments in anime.

What a tragedy!
