| Anyone else notice the Nazi "SS" symbols, the women doing a "sieg hiel" and a dude with a Hitler mustache? This movie could apply to any fascist dystopian regime, but I think the symbolism points to Nazi fascism. |

| The Nazis are the go-to of militaristic symbolism but I also got the odd Soviet, Italian, WWI-era and even some British fragments, and the fat commander guy looked Italian(?). The guy with the 'tache just seemed caricature wartime Japanese to me lol. I'm a bit rusty with all the styles but I think it was just a mix The propaganda on the wall (with the lightning SS) says "No conquest without labor!" in case anyone couldn't tell (took me a while, though it's clearer the 2nd & 3rd times). |
| The level of technology and social structure in Cannon Fodder more suggests a WWI feel to it rather than WWII. The aristocratic fop all decked out in ceremonial armour who fires the cannon and takes the credit gives a vibe that they're still living with the Edwardian-era philosophy of strict social castes rather than the more modern values of equality (as primordial as it still would have been back then) that you would have seen in the late 1930's. If anything, the kid might be a better choice for the Hitler analogue, considering his art skills. Though even that would be a stretch, considering how young he is. Also, I should point out that the short mustache was incredibly popular in the early 20th Century, right up until Hitler ruined it for everybody. Just another in his long list of crimes against the human race. |
