Simple question (s) >
Does this series end with harem ending?
- no couple is formed
- "all" girls love main dude but that's about all

or

Does this series have proper romantic conclusion ?
- romantic couple is formed between MC and heroin

or

something entirely else ?

It was a classic harem ending. All girls still love the main boy and no romantic alliance was formed.

The answer should be obvious for most harems.

Its not a harem ending because he chooses no one. A harem ending is an ending where a character marries or dates multiple girls. So I don't know why people still insist on calling an open ending a harem ending, its not, its an open ending.

I mean if you call an opening ending a harem ending, then what exactly do you call an ending that actually ends in a harem, like I don't Tenchi, probably High School Dxd and To Love Ru, Campione etc.

Harem ending today means typical cliffhanger ending for anime with haremish plot which is as if to be continued but in most cases even if it is continued it only brings repeated circle of one dude having many girls caring for him in romantic way ending exactly like prequel with open ending - boy wont change his "status".
So basically whole story may or may not end haremish.
So far there was only one true harem ending known to me which was in one series of the Tenchi's franchise where boy married all girls.
To love ru doesn't have ending and character picking all or one in 1st place which makes it the "not real harem ending". Campione is close but MC seems not interested in all girls romantically and will probably pick just blond girl or all we don't know yet.

My opinion about "opening ending" and "harem ending":

(1) A "true" harem is when a guy (or a girl) date or marry with multiple girls (or boys). From now on, i'll be considering that many girls love only 1 (one) boy, but could be the reverse: many boys -> only one (1) girl. Could also be: girls -> girl and boys -> boy;

(2) If he chooses NO one, regardless if the girls all love him, it is not a Harem.
What i mean is: Just the fact that many girls love one boy it's not a "true" Harem;

(3) To be considered really a Harem, the boy have to accept their love (of more than 1 [one] girl, obligatorily);

(4) If more than 1 (one) girl loves him, but he accepts just the love of 1 (one) of the girls, it is not Harem;

(5) Ie, in an anime where many girls love just 1 (one) boy, but the anime ends up before him choose 1 (one) or more than 1 (one) girl(s), does not mean "harem ending". Would be "harem ending" just if he choose to stay (before the end of the anime), at the same time, with more than one (1) girl;

(6) Until now, i have never seen a "true" harem end. I wish i could see one someday.

It also has a synonim - "shit ending".
