| Usually I don't pay much attention to Hibiki but damn, that was too much. Loving this manga. |
| Hibiki gets lonely easy, as evident by both the games and her bit in the anime. It's just not something that I've ever really noted, as it was always either played as a joke or quickly glossed over. This is despite her best song, I'd argue, being the cover of Nada Sousou, which happens to be both an Okinawan song and a solemn song reflecting the passing of a loved one long ago. Given Hibiki's image, in addition to the nature of the idol business, such a song seemed far too heavy, but I felt it was done with a great amount of tact and respect. So here, to my surprise, we have a story about Hibiki acting outside both her established image and her own comfort zone.There wasn't anything dramatic or tragic. It was a simple story that challenged Hibiki's established character, proving therein lies not a flat archetypal character, but the hints of an actual rounded person. I'm liking this manga thus far for the extra dimensions it adds to the characters. It makes me wish these stories were animated, but I suppose that's left to what could have been. |
