Negima!
| Alternative versions are just that: you can watch one or the other. Having seen a few episodes of the older one and dropping it, I would probably say watch "Negima!?" instead of "Mahou Sensei Negima!". The newer one seems to be rated higher as well. | Mahou Sensei Negima! is a standard harem show with some battles mixed in. Nothing really special about it. Negima!? is made by Shaft, meaning it's wacky. It's a different take, and is worth a watch. Both are different from the manga, but while but the Ala Alba and Mahou Sekai OVAs are supposed to be more closer to the manga I think, but I haven't watched them. Or at least, they're animated sections of the manga. Anime Final is supposed to be an alternate ending to the series, but I didn't watch that either. Everything else seem like extras. |
| mahou sensei negima =/= negima!? it's not clear which you watched, since you havent added any to your list, and they both have 26 episodes and start from the beggining, but have different takes on the story most of the ovas make sense only with the "Negima!?" series (except Introduction Film) and only if you read the manga since they take place much later after the anime ends (except Natsu and Haru IIRC) if you wanna watch them anyway, i recomend in airing order you can see the airing order on the right tab of the wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negima!_Magister_Negi_Magi |

| I'm still salty that they never gave us a "real" adaptation of Negima. The old TV show erase important elements of the plot, adding a Gecko ending. OVAS are nice as an addition if you read the manga, but too short and incomplete. on other hand the movie sucks. :/ |

He is the guy that set a harem anime in a hot spring hotel, so that he could have a hot spring episode every episode. In fact, all adaptations of his works that I know about don't have enough fanservice. |
| I'd read the manga personally. The reason people always say you should read Negima is because it eventually turns into a fantasy battle adventure manga, which is what the author Ken Akamatsu originally wanted to do. His editors pressured him into making another harem series after the success of Love Hina, so he decided to say fuck it and make an entire classroom's worth of girls fall for a 10 year old. Once the series had gained traction with fans and he had set up the points needed for the genre transition, he ended up writing a fairly good shounen action series. If you liked the harem aspects of the anime, don't worry those don't go away, they just aren't the main focus. Though if you just want a straight harem and haven't read his magnum opus Love Hina, I suggest doing so. It's a famous harem which inspired many copycats and boosted the popularity of the genre as a whole, and it ends in a reasonable amount of chapters unlike others which drag on forever. |
| So, this is related, not exactly the same as the title, but close enough that I think it's relevant and not worth a new thread. I started watching UQ Holder and really like it so far. I'm just wondering which of the two main Negima series (Negima!? and Mahou Sensei Negima) is the most closely related to UQ Holder? As in, which Negima would provide me with the most consistent backstory for UQ Holder? Thanks! |
