If not, it's this guy.

Rance is way better than most overly resserved harem protag. He has way too much guts to even compare to a typical harem mc.

Rance is less the archetype, but rather the unrivaled paragon.

So far only Keyaru managed to reach his alpha level, afaik.

@tchitchouan well I disagree, unless your meaning of the word "archetype" is different than mine.

I don't know about isekai but the first shoujo/josei harem protagonist is definitely he https://myanimelist.net/character/17881/Hikaru_Genji. His story was written more than a thousand years ago, you can barely beat that. His harem included even a groomed loli (she was the main girl actually), he tried to seduce his step-daugther and banged his step-mother as well. Really nice guy.

Isekai protagonists are Kirito clones, and harem protagonists are just total losers.

Yeah, I can't think of anyone else but Kirito.

I think they are all probably based off of Kirito.

I’m pretty sure we’re suffering from these bland protagonists thanks to kirito

Let's not lump all isekai together....I'm pretty sure Tanya and a few older isekai protags would take issue with that,

Probably El Hazard or Zero No Tsukishima. SAO is still kinda too recent. There might be something older than El Hazard, I just don't know of anything personally.

For a typical isekai Kirito will always be the first reference point when it comes to comparing protagonists lol.

@LenRea Archetype is a typical example, but most harem/isekai protags can only dream of being such an alpha chad like Rance.

A bit late to be the harem protagonist archetype. Surely it's Tenchi https://myanimelist.net/character/274/Tenchi_Masaki

(There's not really a typical isekai protagonist, reminder that even though a lot of them nowadays are of the young male power fantasy type, it is a very varied genre.)

@Zarutaku I mean archetype in this way:
But yes he is the chaddest, because he's the big daddy of isekai MCs otherwise known as it's archetype.
