They don’t cover the same content. Baki 2001 is a prequel to baki 2018. I watched the og and thought I was pretty good, if you skip it that’s not the end of the world but you will miss out on stuff and character introductions

If you want context for baki 2018 watch baki 2001 first. I loved it when the same characters from the original come back in the reboot.

^^I started 2018 Baki not knowing it was a sequel to Grappler Baki so I put it on hold to read the manga and really enjoyed the story and liked the 2001 OP/EDs, so if you care about the story definitely watch the first adaptations. If you want the newer animation with over the top fights and don’t care about the plot then just go for the newer stuff

I personally enjoyed Grappler Baki 2001 much more than the newer seasons.

You need to watch both. I think. You wouldn't quite understand the story without one of them.

Watch the 2001 series then the 2018, the 2018 is the sequel.

Did you forget about Saidai Tournament-hen? It came out right after S1 in 2001.

Sorry, I was adding that to the 2001 anime section of my response.

it's worth it for the character introductions and there are callbacks to the 2001 arc in all following animes so it's worth it for sure. not missing anything crazy at the same time.

Yes. Specially the fight between Orochi Doppo and Yujiro. And the back story of Orochi. Also back story of other characters is good. Similarly it also shows that Baki never ever permanently disables his opponent and fights with honour.

Start with 2001 Baki it’s the beginning of the story and despite its age I found it well done. It also makes for a better experience when watching Baki 2018 & beyond
