After watching the final episode I can’t tell you how hard I’ve been laughing when it clicked that this entire season was just a glorified path to solving Rudeus’s ED.
Like legit. Ep1 discovers ED, ep 12 cures ED. 2-11 his path to fixing his ED.
It’s straight up just a man’s path to curing ED and something about that is just hilarious to me.
It was great and obviously there’s big story developments esp with sylphie back in the mix but the consistent plot was just… ED.

On one end, I can see how it is funny.

On another, it's rather nice how much respect it seemed to give the topic. It wasn't just a but of the joke for the season but it was a legitimate mental health issue that he struggled with alongside his more immediate depression. Over time we see people gather around him that express care and sympathy for him, attempt to help him, and ultimately push him a little further forward over time.

A good chunk of the OP is symbolism about his issues and the emotional pain being abandoned like that caused him as well and it's done in a rather nice way and not what could be hamfisted jokes that would've been inappropriate for how the story is approaching it.

It falls right in line with what I enjoyed about the series at the start. It's about someone who fell apart in their previous life, get a second chance and almost literally relearn life and rebuild themselves mentally.

It shoulda been something original like ep1 discover demonlord, ep12 defeat demonlord!

@CalorieEnchilada oh no, i totally agree. Like people give this show shit for alot of things from the lewd fanservice-y shit to just being an isekai in general, and it's like 9/10 times not warranted. like this show really is a fantastic series. I've watched from day 1 when it premiered and it immediately became a favorite. Yes there is lewd type scenes and fanservice-y parts. Yes there are some dumb jokes here and there. And yeah, i mean sure it is an isekai. But like it's more than all of that. Like honestly take it all in and you'll realize that nothing mushoku tensei does is excessive? Because it's not just some OP MC boob fest harem shitpost. It's the story of a REAL(fictional) man who reincarnates in a different world with different morals and ethics, and his life growing up in this world and learning and discovering all it has to offer and what it takes to live in. It's the story of a man who was constantly bullied and ridiculed who struggled with self-esteem and image issues due to real mental health struggles taking his second chance at life seriously, staying healthy and fit, but genuinely struggles with interpersonal relationships because he's always had to deal with being treated badly and in turn had it ingrained in him that people can't just be nice for no reason. The story of a man who is experiencing things he never before experienced and not knowing how to deal with them, someone who has never known love or the touch of another person. It's the story of a man discovering who he, himself, is for the first time. It really is a fantastic story

Yeah, I felt similar too.
Whole season is a saga about man curing his ED. Well, at least it is somewhat an innovative way to pair up man and girl and let their relationship to blossom by overcoming new type of "hurdle".
