Both the seasons I mean. I don't remember it having anything lewd or inappropriate. What would you do? I feel like this is a pretty great anime to watch with your family.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

It's not lewd, but kinda of kitchy and also quite sad. I wouldn't watch this with my parents personally, but not because it is inappropriate.

no. this is THE worst type of anime to watch with someone.
here's the deal, if they already like the genre (in this case, super cheesy slow drama that makes no sense and just insists that you must be sad cuz reasons) they'll like it. but and this is a very big but! in any other case (including but not limited to: they don't like it, they've never seen stuff like it, they aren't a fan of anime in general, and literally anything else you can think of) it'll end in a disaster. they'll lose faith in you completely, they'll never want to even look at what you recommend from that point on, and they'll become super close-minded about anime as a medium and other things you wouldn't want. or maybe that was your goal all along, in that case, do what you want, I honestly don't care.

I think the key point is that they need to be open to anime and maybe have watched a few before. Clannad is not a beginner anime for sure because it's a bit goofy to start off and not action packed. But nothing inappropriate about it at all.

Parents might actually enjoy the parent-child relations and drama in the show a bit more.

Maybe for some episodes of Season 1 and the last few of After Story for sure, otherwise it's quite slow paced and wouldn't offer much for a great watch-along experience.

Clannad has been the third anime series my parents have bothered to sit with me to watch. It probably doesn’t count that they didn’t watch ALL episodes with me for Season One, but in Season Two, my mother was the one who followed the story of both Tomoya and Nagisa with me (after I explained her a few things from season one). She didn’t get the side story of the robot, but that’s okay, I also explained that a bit to her afterwards.
She found the story cute, special, and over all very true. Unlike her reaction to Attack On Titan (which My dad enjoyed) she felt upset for the ups and downs Tomoya had in his life, and though she didn’t cry, she said she felt upset that like him, there are many people out there who struggle to have a stable life, with the person you love the most in the world. She had never watched any romance/slice of life/ comedy animes with me, until Clannad brought all of these to the table. It’s a very special anime to me, and it’s one I watch every year from the start.

Afterwards, I got her into Fruits Basket, and we watch Sailor Moon at times!

I think the first season will be a very tough sell as they won’t be able to relate too much to the goofy humor and the school related arcs. Season 2 will most likely hit right on the mark because of the more mature themes and them being able to relate it to what it was like having you and what not.

I'd show it to my mom since she already likes anime, but my dad just wouldn't get the appeal, and that's fine

like most have said if they like anime I would 100% watch this with them clannad shows so many struggles and stages of life that we go through as we get older from marriage to parenthood finding work doing difficult jobs spousal conflict parental trauma drugs violence falling out with friends and even how the city we grew up in changing over time in ways we usually don't like. I think its an incredible beautiful and moving piece of media. however it's moe which is debatably the most anime type of anime for pros and cons alike so if they don't like anime or haven't watched atleast 30ish before it might be a bit weird and goofy due to cultural and medium differences. for instances like that you've always got shows like deathnote and fmab to showthem

I wouldn't want to risk crying in front of my parents. They wouldn't like it anyways because it has subtitles.

I would watch both seasons with parents or a partner. The show isn't lewd at all, though the Mei and Tomoya dynamic might be off putting for some people unfamiliar with anime. My main critique for it is that Clannad does have a lot of dry humor to it. I like the dry humor, but it isn't for everyone. Clannad is one of the best melodramas in the medium, so if your mother or your girlfriend likes watching melodramatic stuff with you, go for it. Way better than watching thousands of episodes of La Rosa de Guadalupe.
