Hii….
Ok so I just finished alicization war of underworld S1 and I thought I had the watch order etc sorted out but I’m so confused regarding the two movies after the latest season released so far (war of underworld s2) so like these movies are “Sword art online progressive” and when I saw where it’s adapted from it’s from a whole different SAO LN are these two movies just canon but not related to alicization and future arcs like are they spin offs or what ??
[also to the people seen the movies are they good?]

Edit: I read all the reply’s and thankyou!

Those movies are basically Season 1 of Sao but from Asuna's perspective. It has no relation to Alicazation

Progressive is an alternative, more detailed version of Season 1's first couple of episodes. It's "canon" in the sense that it follows kirito and asuna

The first progressive movie covers ep 1 and 2 of SAO (2012).

There are some shared scenes, like when kirito gives the topping cream to asuna, the first floor boss strategy meeting and the boss fight, but Progressive inevitably changed a fair bit (like when and where kirito and asuna first meet).

Progressive is the story of what happens on each floor, instead of jumping from floor 1 on episode 2, to floor 40 (i think) on episode 3.

The only movie that seemed even slightly relevant when I watched Alicization was Ordinal Scale.

I still haven’t watched that I just looked up what I needed to know when it came up.
But I’ve watched the entire series without any of the movies and didn’t feel like anything was missing. Especially with the progressive movies I think SAO movies are optional.

The Progressive LN takes you floor-by-floor in Aincrad. You can watch the movies so long as you’ve seen the first season of SAO
