If Horikita's brother loved her so much then why did he went to jab her in Volume 1? According to Ayanokouji, if he hadn't stopped him he would've hurt his sister.

He disliked the fact that her sister was treating her as a goal, a checkpost she needed to cross without being herself. It has 2 implications. First, she was not being herself and thus hard to love by his brother. And it held her back, because she refused to learn and co-operate. And second, if she does surpass him one day, he will probably get no attention from her, because her new persona forced her to ignore people beneath her. Surpassing him or not, he will never get the affection of her 'new' sister.

Him hurting her was probably a sign of rejecting her new persona completely.

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.
