Not I.

I was too bored to feel any sort of emotion.

Air's ending was really sad. Shows that portray a mother's love always move me. But I don't think it's the saddest anime of all time. It's more like I had no chance to recover from grief because it ended that way. That's why it left me in low spirits for a while after finishing the last EP.

I don't really understand why people think Air's ending was so sad. Yes, Misuzu as we knew her died. However, she finally reached her "goal" of being at the beach with a friend and she broke the curse that was tormenting Kanna in the sky.

To me a much sadder ending would have been Misuzu living on in loneliness and solitude with an apathetic aunt/mother and passing on the curse for another tortured soul. That would be a real sad ending for Air.

I guess people just equate death = sadness? Which to me is quite silly, when you look at the big picture and how "Misuzu" (Kanna's reincarnation) had died over and over and over and over and over in that 1000 year span.

Now is it depressing? Hell yes. For a little girl to have to suffer that and for an aunt to lose her niece just as she was growing to love her, it's quite depressing.

it may sound strange but it is the 6th ep which made me cry T_T not 12. when Michiru vanished. and its my first time of crying at anime >.< that scene was just too emotional and at the end, Yukitos words towards Minagi "there is a meaning for wings that cannot fly! It's a precious memory of when you once flew in the sky!" absolutly destructed me. <3 loved this anime and im glad it didnt have a happy end.

just finished air and to be honest...the ending was not that sad. I mean the subject was sad but did it depress me? Not really. It could also be that Ive watched air after seeing clannad and after story so this didnt really phase me. Episode 11 was done well and the ending of that one I felt had more emotional depth with Haruko running towards misuzu...and I was a little turned off by harukos speech for the crow sora after...it seemed a little cheesy and wasnt needed in my opinion.

I enjoy anime that I feel emotionally attached too, I have yet to watch this, but if it's that touching, I'm sure i'll enjoy.

I agree with Sophia. After you watched Clannad and Clannad After Story first, nothing else phased me.

It was pretty sad, especially at its end, but it didn't wreck me the way Clannad did at at least two points. I think this is probably because I was trying to figure out the way certain things related to each other for a large part of the series, and also because it didn't really draw things out.

Maybe it was short but it is a sad anime. For me it has a not so happy ending because the people who are meant to be together aren't together in human form. I mean Yukito turning into a crow is sad but it's one of the most wonderful things I have seen to always be at the side of the person you love.

So it is indeed a sad ending for me but it had such a deeper meaning and I believe that the boy and the girl at the end are yukito and misuzu reincarnated without the problems of the curse. So that makes it an ending I can accept. But who didn't cry when her aunt who really loved her, had to let her go to heaven. The development in the last episodes between mother and daughter is beautiful.

In 2022 this is still one of the saddest anime ever in existence. I came here and made an account just to reply 12 years later to meddigo and sophiafrmaustria lol. By now we all know every detail to the series and the creators work so I dont understand how meddigo can say its depressing but not sad, maybe the ending wasnt as much because the main characters were saved but overall everything they went through and dying at such a young age was not ok lol its like telling a cancer kid its not a big deal like they are kids for crying out loud and that scene, dialog, and music piece that they showcased with the mother was heart wrenching. As for sophia u wernt phased by 2 of the most popular and well known sad pieces of work in this genre by the same author, I'm not surprised this incredible work of art did nothing for you. To each their own, I can watch this short series forever and still relate to the characters.

I want to say without a doubt given how much i adore it but i also have to be reminded of much media that overshadows AIR.
But like you've said, the ending is spectacular. It never fails to make someone cry.
It definitely does not feel generic with the powerful voice acting, the message that is portrays and how Haruko is changed as a person.
