| Fortunately, I didn't experience the KyoAni trolling the community by throwing a few "big announcement" for season 2, and so I also didn't experience the hell called "Endless Eight." I watched the series when it has finished its airing and I was kind of skimming through the Endless Eight arc. My impression of the whole Melancholy was mostly meh. Therefore, I didn't go to the Disappearance movie with much expectation other than the "usual" Haruhi shenanigans. But... The movie punched me in the guts as to how different it is from Melancholy. Based on that alone, Disappearance left an everlasting impression on me. It's personally a masterpiece for me. I could still remember how engrossed I was when I watched it. So yeah, my advice for people who got turned off by the TV series is for you to persist through it and jump to the movie. Perhaps there will be pleasant surprise waiting for you in Disappearance. |

Not to hate dubs but in no way he would be that better, not that i gonna watch it, since i don't even listen to dubs in my language, much less english. |

| I have to agree, it's one of the best anime movies I've seen. But I didn't enjoy the show all that much, mainly because I don't like Haruhi's personality. Having to watch the show to understand the movie is a detriment imo and is why I didn't rate it higher. |

Sure he may have been Gintama's VA, but you can't knock my man Crispin Freeman if you don't even know who he is, that's just ignorance. Not saying Tomokazu Sugita is a bad seiyuu btw, but you can't knock a phenomenal performance just because you like one actor more than another. That's like hating the new Spiderman movies because you like Toby Maguire more than Tom Holland. Maybe I'm more partial to the English dub since it is one of the only one's that isn't grating on the ears, but Freeman really nails the tonality and emotion you would expect from a character like Kyon having his first true emotional outburst. It's possible that nuance gets across better to me because I am a native English speaker and it's a lot harder to pick up on stuff like that in non-native languages--- similar to how Japanese sayings lose a lot of their deeper meanings even if explained by a 5 page long TL note. But I digress, to each their own how they want to enjoy the movie; it is amazing regardless of how you view it. Its you that said it was "sacrilege" to watch in japanese, i don't watch dubs but i don't doubt that there is great dubs. I just said that no matter what i doubt that there is someone who would dub Kyon that better than Sugita, because i truly believe in it, but there can be someone close enough like this guy you mentioned. |
