Read the manga, the 90s adaptation was pretty good but doesn’t cover the full thing while the other adaptation is a full Cgi mess. The best way to experience berserk is too listen to soundtrack the berserk anime gave us while reading it

I saw some of the 2016 adaptation yes the CGI was laughably bad and that’s saying something for someone who’s willing to tolerate the few bad animation scenes of record of ragnarok

I'd recommend watching both the 1997 TV series and the newer 3-part movies, then read the manga, since there are differences. If you have the time and desire, of course, and depending on if you prefer anime or manga, in general. Up to you.

Read the manga, really is the best choice and best experience. If you are more of watching anime and then the manga, start by the 97 adaptation that leaves an open ending for hunger your curiosity about what happen next, even the movies are a good choice, they are pretty decent. The problem I had with berserk 2016 and 2017 is not only the animation and goofy SFX, but that they really messed up the story at the point that it didn't make any sense, the OST is the only good thing I consider good of that crap.

I watched the adapted part and read the rest. My recommendation is both. Yes the 2016 and 2017 were a mess but seeing everything in color first helped me enjoy the manga even more

Your options from best to worst.

1. Read the manga, it's the greatest creative work ever to be made in humanities history. Im dead serious.

2. Kenpu denki berserk, the 1997 anime kicks ass and roughly covers volume 3-13.

3. The golden age arc trilogy of movies are fine. I didnt find them nearly as good as the manga or 1997 anime.

4. The various games.

5. r/berserklejerk on reddit.

6. Gigantomakhia, has nothing to do with berserk but made by its author.

7. Duranki, once again not berserk. Made by friends of miura.

8. 99% of any japanese media.

9. Berserk the flame dragon knight. And unspeakably awful LN.

10. Berserk 2016/2017. Please dont, I mean I still liked it ironically. But seriously dont.
He died doing what he wanted, no matter what, right? I bet he was happy.

Good luck with berserk Kouji Mori, you'll need all the help you can get. We believe in you.

Berserk 97' is a fantastic anime. It's the second story arc and does a really good job compared to the manga. I'd say watch the 97'and if you like it, I'd read the manga. The new one...if you love it I'd say watch it, but it is a mess when it comes to the visuals.

Definitely read it, if you are wondering if you’ll be interested at all. Watch the first movie, and when your hooked, start back at page 1 of the manga and catch up

Read the manga lmaoo. Is that even a question? I mean you can watch the 90's adaptation because it's better and faster(?), but I suggest reading the manga

You can watch the anime, but then go read the manga from the start. The classic anime and the movies skipped the first arc and some events from the golden age. The 2016-2017 anime skipped another arc. Also, there are many things after it.

Step 1: Manga
Step 1B: Anime
Step 1BA: watch Kenpuu Denki Berserk, the 97 adaptation.
Step 1BB: then the movies trilogy
Step 1BC: watch Berserk 2016
Step 1BD: watch Berserk S2 (2017)
(After all steps or just because you can't proceed Steps 1BC and 1BD, go back to Step 1)

Step 1C: play Berserk Musou for the meme

You read the manga. Then it's recommended to watch the 97 anime (preferably the Japanese dub) simply because it is an amazing anime with the OST and the voice acting being the highlights.

It's heavily recommended to stay away from the abomination that is the 2016-2017 anime.
