Nijigahara Holograph - Jigsaw?

For those who have read the manga I was wondering what are these images at the end of each chapter supposed to mean.
And a few of them can be rearranged to make a few images.

I think it is just a way for the author to break up the story and provide a little break, but continue to add to the tone.
He does this in Goodnight Punpun and Solanin as well to separate chapters, I think it's just one of Inio Asano's quirks.
As to the jigsaw aspect, I don't really think it works, but art is subjective.
