Is the Dubbed version different from the Subbed version?

I've been watching this anime subbed for a few episodes and suddenly accidentally landed on a dubbed one. In my search to continue the series subbed I landed on a few episodes I had already watched, this time however, they were dubbed.

I noticed the subbed version told the story mainly through flashbacks up until the point that I got (Starting ep 8.). While the dubbed ones seem to tell the story in one fluent motion. Actually telling the story from beginning to end, without many flashbacks.

This made me very confused. So maybe someone can offer me some insight without spoiling the series for me?
