Should I stop watching Gantz after episode 21?

I've read 3 or 4 threads that say that the anime went in its own direction after episode 21. I plan on picking up the manga where the anime left off but I don't know if watching the SS all the way through will confuse things. What do you guys think?

Oh and as a side note, what chapter does the manga leave off on? I don't plan on starting from the beginning (since the animes so greasy in my head) just for some small details. I read that it's around CH. 90 but I've also seen CH. 50 or 60.

Stop reading the manga too because in episode 2 of Inuyashiki Hiro called GANTZ a shitty manga about killing.
