| Kira had a really embarrassing "No Dignity" moment with those laid-off bums and it's a pretty well-deserved reminder that his actions has consequences. Unfortunately for one of them, the same rule applies too, resulting in him getting his fingers blown off. He's out of breath and is right in front of Koichi! They can might as well end all of it on the spot but that'd be unlikely. |

| It is interesting that Araki is attempting to make us root for Kira. When he was hiding from the boys, it was hard not to want him to succeed. This time around, it was black and white. He faced public humiliation, the thing he hates most, and something deeply relatable to anyone. Then he was unfairly bullied by two punks releasing their anger. All I could ask was for Kira to kill them. Getting us on the side of a serial killer who already killed Shigechi is a pretty big thing to do. Further, I think he's been painted in a sympathetic light. The thing he hates most is standing out, as if the Patrick Bateman style speeches are to assert his normalcy. To overcompensate and prove that he is an everyman, that he is normal. But if he requires to kill for his peace of mind then he could never be accepted as he is. To everyone else he is a monster. Perhaps he harbors resentment towards women because they rejected him when he was younger, maybe he has no friends or family in his life because he learned that he wasn't compatible with them. To live a quiet life, where people accept the facade and where he doesn't reject his own desires suddenly makes a lot of sense. Those hands are all he's got. Maybe I'm reading into this way too far but this chapter got me thinking. |
