This is a list of series that I'd classify as "moderate" H&E.

This label doesn't communicate any specific content of the series themselves - they're not "moderate" in terms of ecchi content - but moreso that these series tend to lay in the middleground between traditional and progressive sensibilities. They can feature many pronounced traditional H&E elements, while having key components be portrayed in a way that could be labeled as progressive, or vice versa.

These are your centrists on the spectrum. They don't radically depart from the norm in any way, nor do they fit the mold of a traditional H&E. They're tweeners.

This is split into 2 Categories:
B. (starts with Utena) I've only seen Madoka Magica and I want to learn more about the genre, but idk if I'm ready for kids' shows.
If at the end you're ready to explore the mahou shoujo genre in full force, jump to Category A.

A. (starts with Precure) I like cute stuff and the magical girls aesthetic, and I can actually handle stuff aimed at little girls.
If at the end this isn't enough for you, congrats, you're into mahou shoujo and you should start doing your own research.

loli, incest, harem, student, teacher, nurse, maid, knight, mage, priest, nun, ghost, vampire, angel, demon, succubus, alien, magical girl, monster girl, trap, tsundere, gender bender, transformation, tentacle, bondage, masturbation, intercourse, prostitution, rape

I excluded themes like big boobs and ass because they are featured in almost all of them. The tags are only there if there's actual fanservice of it, for example if there's a teacher but no fanservice around the teacher then it's not tagged as such.

severe - nudity is the main focus of the anime and featured multiple times in almost every episode
moderate - nudity isn't the main focus but featured very frequently in multiple episodes
mild - nudity is featured sometimes

I also added a rating for violence so you don't end up having a cursed fap (unless that's exactly what you want).

A gender-oriented story which revolves around the lead protagonist tends to transform into their opposite gender by some supernatural phenomena or simply cross-dressing.

One of the least explored but widely used as a comical sequence in many popular shows.

This stack is dedicated to the so-called "Ikemen Onna" or as they are better known in the West, Prince-ish girls. That is, cool androgynous female characters who look incredibly handsome and act like fairytale princes, which makes them incredibly popular with girls. Initially, such characters appeared only in shoujo anime as one of its classic moe and yuri archetypes, but subsequently ikemen onna began to appear more and more outside of female media, often playing the role of action female MC in various all-female and not so anime.

A stack dedicated to "pantsu fighting", mostly all-female fighting shows that focus on highly sexualized fights between attractive female characters. This sub-genre gets its name from the overuse of pantsu shoots, especially during kicks.

Typical characteristics of the genre:

Well detailed and animated fights.
Almost always predominantly all-female cast.
Strong ecchi filling and lots of classic tropes like ripped clothes.
Abuse of yuri fanservice, especially the violent type.
Shonen-like archetypes of the main characters.
A cheesy plot that rarely takes itself too seriously.

Titles labeled Certified Rotten™ mean they have a Tomatometer score that's in the bottom 10% of anime that I've watched. The Tomatometer (ala Rotten Tomatoes) is calculated by the percentage of MAL users who have rated an anime an 8/10 or higher. These are the ecchi anime I've watched that have a male MC that doesn't fit into either of the following tropes:

Bland-looking MCs that are afraid to action and have no real personality

MCs that are nothing but blatant perverts

The Main Characters on this list vary on their uniqueness, but my standards are pretty low for what constitutes as a 'unique' character, since so many are bland af

Some of these may be inaccurate, as a lot of these I watched years ago.

In my rather excursive anime history, I have encountered many series with gender swapping motifs. Some have a recurrent theme throughout the series, whereas others only feature gender swapping plotlines in an episode or two. Because of this, many of these series aren't often tagged or labelled as such. Therefore I've decided to compile them all in one place.

You can view the entries in 'list' format to see my notes. Where a series isn't exclusively about gender swapping, I've noted the specific episodes it occurs. I've also noted whether the gender swapping aspects are either transformation, body swap, or possession. There are no spoilers in my notes; just synopsis details and nature of the gender swap.
