Space opera + comedy = these 2 series. I know that Nadesico has its own brand of zaniness and humor but it is almost the same with Tylor since both heroes (Tylor and Akito) are clueless when it comes to feelings although Tylor excels in being an idiot or savior anytime. The crew of both flagships (Soyokaze and Nadesico) have their own share of oddballs who chew on hapless officers anytime. So if you liked space operas with a dash of romance and a generous helping of offbeat humor and drama, these 2 series are for you. ^__^

The main characters in GXP and Captain Tylor have simple dumb luck which allows them to survive dangerous situation without skill.(In GXP Siena has bad luck, yet in the end he survives.) Both of the anime involve space battles and have harems. One contrast between the characters is Captain Tylor has a happy-go-lucky personality while Seina(GXP) is a worrywart.

They both have very irresponsible people who everything works out for and are vital to the people around them success. They are impossible to fire. They both have a love plot that never develops. They are very funny and have a fun feel to them. GTO the main character will try, but in ICT he doesn't appear to give it any effort.

Everybody knows about the traditional luck of fools. Human with this ability manage to make incredible things without even thinking about it. Tylor and Kintaro are the typical representative of such character. They both don't think much about reasons of their behavior. But people trying to measure them by own yardstick find out that it's impossible to explain what they have on their minds. By all means Tylor and Kintaro have the gift of pleasing which helps them to become friend almost with everybody around them. Both Golden Boy and Captain Tylor are great comedies which except similar main characters have many funny moments including men  read more

Both are sci-fi comedic anime, but most importantly the lead characters are very similar. Both Leads are outwardly dullards, foolish, and they both make rash seemingly insane decisions/actions. However, both characters actions have a deeper meaning and they are proven to be capable due their hidden talent, or genius. Despite this however both leads are given little respect and even less credit for their successes by their peers. Most importantly both these anime do an excellent job of comic relief.

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor HAS TO BE a parody based on Yang Wenli from Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Not so much in terms of their personalities - both being lazy slackers by nature aside - but in terms of the small things. Ignoring superficial aspects, their characters are actually totally different: Tylor is a happy-go-lucky, idiot-genius hybrid; surviving using his unlimited supply of luck, while Yang uses his love of history and intellect to preserve democracy. A serious/comedy series divide. Yang would most certainly live as carefree as Tylor if he was allowed to but, alas, he wasn't. Fate was cruel. ...BUT, there are similarities  read more

Similar themes of peace. Or maybe nose thumbing at military Hawkism and ruthlessness. In both the main champ is supported by an old guy against the wishes of high military leaders. Maybe similar comedy styles too.

Both are lighthearted space comedies with a nice blend of humour and action.

Both are great Science Fiction Anime, the only major differences are in the main character(s). One is irresponsible, and well the others are great female main characters. If you enjoyed one, then you'll enjoy the other!

When i first started watching El Hazard The Wanderers, it reminded me so much of Irresponsible Captain Tylor. They are both from before 2000 & the art design is very similar. Two factions (one side humen looking-the other aliens) fight a war against each other. Of course theres a princess too and romantic going on between main character and her.

Captain Tylor and Pink Shock are "shockingly" similar. Pardon the pun lol What i mean is that both shows are goofy space parodies that you can sit back and just enjoy.

the MC in both anime are lazy and wanted to live an easy life but ends up rising to the top instead

I make this recommendation because these shows are about guys in space but contain good comedy segments and likeable characters. Also some entertaining space battles and if you are into watching old anime series.

Imagine if Kamina was put in charge of a spaceship and had the best luck in the world. That would be Irresponsible Captain Tylor in a nutshell

Leadership is a very difficult thing. Someone says you can’t learn it but only gain from God. For Luffy and Tylor it's absolutely true. Main screen time they acting like fools without realizing what’s really going on, but when time comes they somehow managing to turn everything for their own benefit. Two desperate heaven-born captains definitely put these series together. If One Piece’s length and Captain Tylor’s release date doesn’t scary you go ahead and watch them. You won’t be disappointed because a great comedy is a one more reason to unite these series.

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor's warfare is of the intergalactic variety, where as Gate's is a mixture of modern / medieval fantasy. But what links the two is the manner in which slacker main characters unwittingly find themselves promoted in the military and in charge of others after actions they themselves did not perceive to be that much of a big deal. And how they then proceed to become increasingly famous as heroes... despite having little to no motivation! The tone of the two series is also very similar: comedies with a harem-ish edge. Gate is more otaku pandering in this regard, but Tylor also has females  read more

If you enjoyed the comical aspects to Planetes then you may enjoy Irresponsible Captain Tylor, which takes the comedy a good bit further. Though just like Planetes, the show does tend to have its serious and emotional scenes (especially towards the end, like Planetes). All in all, both are excellent space drama comedies.

Pretty much, Irresponsible Hero meets Irresponsible Captain At first glance these shows don't share alot off thing except that they both play out in a time were aliens exist and that they both are in the Parody category on MAL. Since I saw Gintama before Irresponsible Captain Taylor I pretty much had all my expectations down on paper. So why does these shows clash together? Let's take a look at the Main characters Gintoki (Gintama) is pretty much lazy/Irresponsible to everyone that hasn't got to know him. The same goes for Tylor (Irresponsible Captain Tylor) Both characters have hearts of gold and are honest and goods  read more

The ship designs and the space opera animation are almost the same.

If you've enjoyed either silly adventures then you will most likely enjoy the other one. Both series are somewhat similar, but neither series feel like a cop-out.

Both anime are about a somewhat dim-witted irresponsible main character who has the princess of another planet after them, whose father is hell-bent on destroying the human race. Both are good ol 80s style, but you will find that outlanders is definitely the abridged version of Captain Tylor. If you like space drama action then definitely check it out!
