Worldbuilding - "the process of constructing a world, originally an imaginary one, sometimes associated with a fictional universe." These kinds of shows are usually set in a fantasy and/or sci-fi world, and excel at establishing & showcasing the rules/history/economy of their fictional universe. List was created through collective data from multiple websites of people's answers as to what shows are considered to have great world building.

Critics & Connoisseurs was a club that was founded in 2008 and ended club activities on the 31st of 2022.

The goal of the club was to come up with a list of highly recommended quality shows that are exemplary either within its genre or universally. An anime needed a 70% approval rate in our voting to get on the relation list. The following anime are all part of said list.

You can see the club page here:

What I look for the most in an anime above everything else is high-quality writing. That's not to say that manga, visual novel, and light novel adaptations are written poorly; in fact, there are some that have incredible, masterfully-crafted storylines. I have simply personally found that some of the most unforgettable series for me have been novel adaptations.

Given that there currently exists no anime search option for this, the basis of this interest stack is to provide a list of full-length novels that have been adapted into series or movie format.

*Disclaimer: not enough space to add children's classics to this, go check out Nippon Animation's studio page if you want more!

Important! Do not read below this line, if you do not want to know what's common among the series. Other than that, there are no spoilers.

These entries contain:
• Excellent world building (nearly entirely fantasy)
• Elements of state-craft (mostly)
• Adventure (mostly)
• Only full TV shows (no movies)
• Only the first season or entry in their respective series (most of the regular seasons must be watched in order to get the full experience)
• No episodic entries (all have complex stories that span the entire series)
• Some entries with incomplete, yet still convincing stories

Continuation of my previous list of anime series not so well known for their titles, some not necessarily underestimated, but easy to go unnoticed in the community.

This is stack of predominantly non-comedic, Slice of Life anime. These anime are not entirely devoid of comedic elements, but comedy features rather sparsely and isn't a key plot-device. Some of the anime featured here uses the opportunity to deal with and provides an insight into complex subject matters, ranging from Depression to Gender-identity, in a realistic and humane way.

None of the titles in this stack take place in real locations, but they all have settings inspired by a specific Asian culture or mix of cultures.

I understand there may be titles missing from this stack. If you wish to let me know of anime I have overlooked, please explain why they belong so that I can add them.

This is a list of anime that fall under the 'Cottagecore' aesthetic. The Cottagecore aesthetic romanticizes nature, the countryside and slow living. It consists of peaceful pastoral locations, homemade crafts, and traditional homesteading activities such as cooking, picnicking, gardening, forging, care-taking, etc.

Cottagecore is a western concept, but goes hand in hand with 'Iyashikei', which is a theme often intertwined with Slice of Life. It emphasizes slow living, and appreciates the wonder of being alive. It brings a gentle joy to the chores in every day life, and has a peaceful, serene tone. It's one of the narrative styles that make Japanese works so distinct and charming.

I'll be adding to this list as time goes on. Some of these works wont fully fit the Cottagecore aesthetic, but are close enough that they're worthy of being in the stack.

This collection of series, movies and shorts represent a specific mood, expressed within the anime media. Their pace is most likely slow, and are usually focused at the complex emotional web that surrounds the worlds and characters within them.

In each of them, the feelings which are translated onto the viewer are those of comfort, but also anxiety, of affection, as well as sorrow. The balance and the depth at which we're affected from these shows does depends from our personal worldviews, as well as our empathy.

These selected series presents us relatable, even if based on fiction, stories - which even within it's bleakness and darkness, does hold a silver of hope and warmth, or which holds within their bright and vivid colors sublime, gentle, but ever present feeling of despair and sadness.
