While the tone of these two series is not very similar they both feature extremely violent situations in which apparently fragile female characters are revealed to have a potential for being highly destructive. Little girls as weapons form the main premise of these series, although it is carried out differently; EL opts for a more graphic approach that maximizes the use of colour, while Saikano is more subdued, using a mostly grey palette to convey a feeling of hopelessness. In both cases romance blooms and is put to a ferocious test. These two series may differ in a lot of aspects - the ecchi factor  read more

Both start off as two people who go out but are only led to tragedy. It starts off all happy and romantic but then it all goes down hill. There are also several other similarities but I don't want to spoil it. Both have a really sad ending. Well....for Saikano it all depends on how you look at it to call it a "sad" or "happy" ending.

Both are about a desperate struggle against alien apocalypse, banked on a single hope found in a teenage girl born for this purpose. Both series focus less on the wars but on the tragic characters. Iriya is a superior production in terms of story cohesion and credibility in my opinion.

Both are about stories of girls who were created to be weapons. The stories tell how they deal with their new way of life.

They both have a main character that is not human... at all

Both are incredibly sad anime, and i could go into further detail of how they are somewhat similar, but it would have to include spoilers, so lets leave it as that.

Both a very sad and angsty story about two unappreciated loves, in times of war. In both anime, there are lots of science-fiction elements and the significant other of the protagonist is used as a weapon. Very similiar.

While watching both of these anime, I got the same feeling many of the times. Both of the stories start off with a shy girl and a kind of jerk guy getting together, the only thing is that Saikano has more science-fiction elements. From there, there are quite a few sexual scenes in both of these anime and I got creeped out by some of them in both of the anime. The main guy character in both of these has trouble keeping his mind on one girl at a time, although the one in Saikano is way nicer, but they are both unloyal, sometimes uncaring people. They both have a teenage girl being turned into a weapon to save people, they both have romance and drama, but Zaion contain less romance.

its not actually the person who's the weapon but the only pilot possible for the ultimate weapon in Rahxephon. There's a romance thing going on too...

Bokurano and Saikano do not appear very similar on the surface but they share the same overreaching theme of foreboding doom, subjecting their respective casts to situations of intense despair. Both deal with the end of the world as we know it; in Saikano due to human folly and war and in Bokurano due to a bizarre game of fatal consequences. In both anime the protagonists are very young people forced to deal with extreme situations in which death is ever present and annihilation threatens. Saikano has an element of romance while Bokurano deals with family and friendship relations first and foremost. These are anime  read more

A boy protecting the girl The girl is used as a dangerous and destructive weapon The girl is in love with the boy Same theme of war Differences: Guilty crown is more action filled and music is better! A definite must-see!

Both series are very emotional and contain tragedy and drama themes. Both series' theme are also quite similar involving a destined meeting and has a similar taste. Both series convey war and humanity and conveys the horrors of it in its finest form. The main girl in both series are also being used as a weapon and the main protagonist tries to protect them while making a future with them.

-> People that is used like "weapon" -> Apocalyptic background. -> "romance" involved. -> End of the world involved. -> War, future japan involved. Obviously, Neon Genesis evangelion is pretty more deep than Saikano, and saikano has a lots of sex scenes (but evangelion not...)

Although the stories are quite different, the main characters of each series are similar in disposition and abilities. If you're looking for a show with characters that have power forced upon them against their will, and have grown/suffered as a result, these shows are for you.

The theme of tragedy that brings horror, emotions, and drama are all in both of these series. There is some comedy although both series focuses on the dark mood of the story. Sci-Fi elements are also present in both anime(s) as well as various plot holes that may throw the viewers off. If you want to watch something on a weekend night that involves tragedy, emotions, and drama, then both of these anime(s) might be something worth adding to your to-watch list.

Young girl becomes an ultimate weapon and last hope of humanity of survival. But there is still a man who tries to help her preserve her humanity. Same drama and vibes.

In the both anime, the character is a robot that could cause a massive destruction. Saikano more focuses on the romantic love relationship. On the other hand, Inuyashiki focuses on the character development.

Saikano and Dolls' Frontline are both about little girls who have had their body's altered to become great weapons. If you like great violence and cute girls watch these series.

Two shows with a focus on drama and the personal relationships between a group of friends. Saikano has a war scenary, you can see the degeneration while the war for a friends group and some couples. If you are looking for a drama, love triangle and slice of life while the war, this the best anime (better in manga)

The protagonist girl is trained and turned into a weapon, to serve his government.

Both series deal with an underlying problem that causes difficulties in obtaining a perfect relationship with another person.

Male and female MC try to stay together as long as they can until the very end. Saikano deals with the end of the world while Hantsuki deals with a terminal illness

They both are based on two main characters in apocalyptic situations. Both anime series emphasize colors since special events are colored in bright colors while the rest have a muddy hue.
report Recommended by arimakenshin
They both have many differences ( Saikano being more of a romance ), but I think the feel of each is similar. Both are deeper type of anime's with a bit of sci-fi mixed in.

both about girls who either are or use superior weapons.

Saikano and Fafner-Right of Left share the same mood of deep tragedy that accompanies the involvement of children in a ruthless conflict. In both, technological advancements are made to help with the war effort and these same backfire and cause considerable damage on the child fighters. A very moving romance develops in both titles. Saikano, however, is exceedingly sad while Left of Right is more bittersweet.

End of Evangelion and Saikano might not seem similar at first glance but they deal with the same disheartening scenario: the collapse of humanity. Both are tours de force, uncompromising in their violence, poignant in their striking emotional appeal, visceral experiences of borderline nihilism that do not spare the characters and audience. These animes are about the end of everything as we know it; artistic brilliance drives the point with shocking efficiency as deconstruction is taken to frantic excesses, EoE and Saikano are the epitome apocalyptic storytelling made believable via the very humane suffering that pervades both efforts.

Like Saikano, Grave of the Fireflies is an emotionally intense anime that revolves around people trying to find normalcy while living through a war that is beyond their control.

Despite having the potential to become one of the best anime in the past decade, they both drown in their ambitions by the petty melodrama and inconsistent characters. These two series are a must watch if you love tear jerkers.
report Recommended by arimakenshin
Both are cyberpunk with depressing settings and partially-explained reasoning of how the story develops and how the story ends. The range of character sets and the context (high school life vs gang wars) are quite different though. But probably these two are the most similar anime on this recommendation list.

Another great story where war thrives and girl is used as an ultimate weapon ploted in romance in a first place.

It is the same as a guy falls in love with a girl who is out of the ordinary, but with a cheerful ending.

Enjoy melodramatic, hypersensitive supporting characters despite featuring an interesting lead character? Clannad and Saikano exist for you! The two series are from different genres but share the same atmosphere. It is quite evident that the producers aimed to appeal to the viewer's emotions.
