This is similar in the way the characters are drawn. The main character, Hatsuki, looks and acts a lot like Kurusegawa Himeko. This is the same for Hatsumi and Himemiya Chikane. If you look at this anime you will find yourself thinking of Kannazuki no Miko because of the characters and just because of the way the story generally makes you feel. I suggest it because of the magic in it, the comedy and because if you liked Kannazuki no Miko and the relationship between Himeko and Chikane then you will like this anime.

Both attempt sci-fi, except in TLR it is almost deflated. Lala keeps inventing gizmos and the only thing the narrative comes up with is the same exact comedic routines invariably involving the protagonist falling, with inevitable coincidences. Lala in Yami happens to be an AI in a spaceship that cares for children for one particular reason... Yami has so much depth to it, TLR tried to have bits of romance too, only to fall flat on its face (literally, often), whereas the romance in Yami can be funny and deep at the same time, with added existential complications.

Both are non-linear and complex, with several stories and characters intricated in various places and ages. Both have immortal people, magic/alchemy, and comedy. Both anime are long 13 episodes (3 OAV of Baccano! excluded). Also, both Baccano! and Yamibou are set, always or in part, on a train.

Both stories about traveling to different worlds in order to find something. They both also have: a swordsman, a magician, and an annoying little creature. Though Yami to Boushi is more in the ecchi side.

They're both journeys to find something... an 'other', and both involve existential angst and issues with identity. Lain, though, lacks the romantic aspect (and has no ecchi whatsoever, but Yami, even with nudity animated, has the intellectual elements that Lain strived for). Yami is like the Lain if combined with Inuyasha and added innuendo. Lain is a bit more abstract, but crucially both contain inquiries about the nature of what one seeks and is.

They have parts set in Japan in the past (in Inuyasha's case it's the majority of the time); both have mikos (with a red lower garment, although in Yami it's more symbolic). They also have what seem like yokai (although the imaginative aspects are more pronounced in Yami), and both have romance (with different attractions). Yami is like the other if combined with Lain and added innuendo.

The theme of both shows are the implications of space-time travel of supernatural characters for the worlds they visit and the people they bond with during their stay. The approach to their many worlds multiverse in both anime is seemingly episodic at first, but evolves into a rather philosophical overarching story connecting them. In both shows, this is contrasted with massive nudity and kiddy grade comedy, but fortunately it never goes down to worn cliché ecchi tropes. This is easily understood by the source material, in both cases adult visual novels. There's yuri baiting in both, far more so in Yami. Due to their world's  read more

several of the characters from higurashi are in one of the episodes of this series. While there is unfortunately no yuri or even shoujo ai, the feeling you get when you watch it is pretty much the same. so are some of the themes.

both Yami to Boushi... and Akuma no Riddle you'll find your tomboy'ish teenage girl fighting, risking her life for that special girl she vowed to protect... Obviously, both series have some very apparent yuri vibes, and while I think AnR is a better produced show, Yamibo has a much more interesting story to tell. If you happened to like one of those two, I strongly believe you would also like the other since they complement each other so well.

Some of the characters reminded me of Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito, however this anime is mainly yuri.

In both anime, the main character tries to get back his/her loved one. Gakuen heaven is shounen-ai, while yami to boushi to hon no tabibito is shoujo-ai. both involves deep romantic emotions.

Both have: - A strong and tomboyish female lead who's good at using the sword (Hazuki/Utena) - A strange, kind, quiet, and seemingly innocent co-protagonist (Hatsumi/Anthy) - A funny and/or annoying little creature (Ken/ChuChu) - Magic and fantasy - Shoujo-ai - Incest - Bishounen - The same glossy appearance and feeling - A plot which is confusing and complex at times.

A long journey with different stages and several interesting encounters. One of the main female characters lose the other co-protagonist, then she leave off her home in order to find out the other lost person. They will do a dangerous travel in a weird world.

both are based on H-games by Carnelian and have yuri in them

Both are very sweet and sometimes sad animes that revolve around a yuri relationship, there are also supernatural elements in both although there is far more in Yami to Boushi.
