Magic Knight Rayearth

Both shows involve girls getting transported to a fantasy realm complete with giant suits of armour. The animation in escaflowne is much nicer however (not to jab at MKR, I love this show) and it is shorter at 26 episodes. So if you liked MKR, give escaflowne a try! 

Both stories revolve around a group of girls with magical powers on they're journey to save the world. I could also say that MKR is CLAMP's version of Sailor Moon :), and not a bad one at all. 

Primarily a female cast, magic, mecha and fun  

fantasy, spells, magical beasts and dragons! both have an epic feal to it , especially lodoss war, from the oldskool videogame! 

-Both are great Mahou Shoujo. -Both are from Clamp. -The main character of both series is also excited and cute. -Both have comedy . -Both have a very cute animal -Both have romance.  

Both follow a small group of young girls who are "chosen" to take on heroic roles and are blessed with magical powers. They both use a similar mix of dramatic fight scenes, light-hearted humour and awkward romantic relationships. They each also have a key pet/guide type character that can't actually speak - Mokona in Magic Knight Rayearth and Mini Mew in Tokyo Mew Mew.

Both anime feature girls who get transported to another world and fight with magical powers and mechs. They also both have major plot twists. However, Granbelm is a battle royale, while Magic Knight Rayearth is a fantasy adventure 

Both anime are mahou shoujo anime, set in a fantasy world, with a very similar sense of humor. Zettai Bouei Leviathan feels much like an homage to Magic Knight Rayearth, most noteable if you compare Syrop and Primera. 

The both seasons of Rayearth reflect the plot of Lagann,the first is to save people of a person that gone "bad" to protect something(Zagato/Lord Genome)even if it costs the sake of the people and someone from another world(Rayearth)/From below the surface(Lagann).At the 2nd season there come a menace from outher space(Debonair MKR/Anti-Spiral TTGL),and the chosen ones fights with even bigger mechas(TTGL)or Mashins(in Rayearth)and got to rid the menace from tre world. 

Looking for a serious and epic adventure with the occasional dash of comedy? Slayers has it. Hot-blooded red-headed heroine? Yup...she's there, too. 

Both have magical girls, fighting, and magitech! Great animation and characters as well!  

Both series are fantasy adventure comedies from the same time period, and both use a mix of normal and chibi art styles for comedic emphasis. However, Rayearth is a fully-fledged, more serious story, while Dragon Half is a quick parody OVA. 

In both anime, girls are transported from their home into a new, fantasy world, and are chosen to become warriors and pilot mechs to defeat an ultimate enemy. 

While for shield hero we are introduced to four lads finding themselves in the kingdom of Melromarc where they are immediately assigned to the holy quartet of warrior classes ranging from sword, spear, bow, and shield respectively, in Rayearth there are three schoolgirls summoned on behalf of the elemental trinity system of fire, water and wind in order to fight for the land of Cephiro. The common tropes of having evolving weapons, multiple heroes, each with differing social and educational background from modern day Japan unwillingly finding themselves braving common rpg classes based on their individuality within a fantasy realm on the brink of imminent destruction where inner tension and rivalry between characters is unavoidable yet each hero pursues a common goal of saving said world, makes both isekai shows two side of the same coin. read more 

Mahou Shoujo Mecha anime are a rare find and those two anime are examples of such. "Ginga Ojousama Densetsu Yuna" is a more classical Mahou Shoujo with strong Mecha elements. "Magic Knight Rayearth" is an isekai anime set in a fantasy world that slowly transforms into Mecha. 

watching the first episode really remind me of magic knight rayearth because first of all there are 3 girls in rayearth that travel in a group and each one has a power and personality that match with his eye colour or hair colour the same happens in gate you have Hikaru and Akane both with red hair and red eyes and they have the fire element also the fire and hyperactive personality , Umi and Aoto both with blue eyes and the power of water with a calm and more dense personality and finally Fuu and Midori with green clothes and green eyes both they have a free personality and they are more balanced than the other members and guess what ? both they have the wind power , also in Rayearth they are 2 diferent worlds where in gate we can see 3 , while gate is a more recent anime with alot of cliches rayearth is a classic one that start those cliches among other classic anime , if you like gate and can pass the classic art that rayearth have you definitely gonna enjoy it. read more 

Magic here is the secret word, well atleast for the girls here while slayers is soo damn funny with a very good storyline, rayearth is more a serious plotline and summons magic beasts, both serie´s than can be enjoyed if u like this kind of genre from the old days  

Both focus around a group of young adults fighting against supernatural threats and both share lively visuals,animation and art too. 

Magic Knight Rayearth and Yuki Yuna is a Hero are two magical girl shows where the main characters gain magical powers shortly after transporting to another world. They are given these powers as part of their task to protect/save a powerful being. 

Good all rounder animes, Similar vibes without watching the same anime sort-of feeling. 'Magical girls' and Mechs with great yet different story lines. 

- similar magical powers - knights trying to save the kingdom - similar monsters/islands - hikaru and dai are cute/friendly main characters - similar costumes  

Though characters are pretty different these series feel very similar to each other, particularly when it comes to monster fights and adventure. Both series display a wide range of 'boss' type monsters with many different kinds of abilities. Plus superficial similarities such as saving a world that hinges on female characters who are being imprisoned in a fantasy setting. 

The plot of Pop in Q is strongly similar to the 90's anime because it involves school-girls from different high schools being transferred from their world to another world to save it from disaster. Pop in Q involves dancing while Magic Knight Rayearth uses magic and weapons to help everyone. Moreso, it even emphasizes character development to help further the plot. 

If you loved Tsubasa and this is your first time watching a work made by CLAMP, then you should definitely check out some of their earlier work. Even though the animation in Rayearth may seem dated for some, it is still very enjoyable, and personally, I like it as much as I like the more modern ones. In Rayearth, we follow three girls called Umi, Fuu and Hikaru as they are transported into a magical world called Celes, that they have to save. We will see the first appearences ever of some characters that were featured on Tsubasa, like Mokona for example! Others include Princess Emeraude, Primera, and the three protag girls. I believe that while Tsubasa on its own is a good watch, seeing it after experiencing many other works by CLAMP only enrichens the experience much more, so definitely give Magic Knight Rayearth a chance. read more 

Both characters of Magic Knight Rayearth (Hikaru Shiidou, Umi Ryuuzaki and Fuu Hououji) and Inu Yasha (Kagome) transported into another world to defeat the evils of the demon Naraku and Zagato. 

3 girls each, fighting for what's right in both of their worlds... or in R.O.D's case, BOOKS! Still, they're both pretty good anime. 

in tales of the abyss they live in a world created by an alien ... and they follow some stones that predict theyr future ... in MKR the magic knight r summon by the princesses into an other world ... and the power of this world is linked to the prays of emeraudo himme ... =D .. so ... if u like MKR then u most love tales of the abyss ...  

Fairy Tail and Magic Knight Rayearth are similar by some points. First, both anime take place in fantasy wolrd, where magic, dragon and those kind of things are common. Also, they both have the "nakama" point. The three girls gets many powerup through the series of MKR as well Natsu, Lucy, Erza and Grey. The most reason of their powerup is the care for their friends. Those two anime does not have a great plot. 

A group of 3 is dragged to a fantasy land, turns out they hold some sort of power, and they go on adventures 

Different fantastic weapon was used and design for this anime, some of which was adapted by some clamp. animes :D  

Same 3 Girls with the romance and magic theme. Same kinda animation~ 

Both series say about magical and real world which are heading for a fall. Similarities between Himeno and Hikaru are really easy to notice. There's a prohibited love, cruel enemy, darker side and of course sacrifice. Worth seeing if you like breathtaking moments :) 

This is a cautious recommendation for viewers in both directions. The origins of the core ideas present in Madoka Magic originate in Magic Knight Rayearth. In fact, Madoka comes close to outright plagiarizing Rayearth in some respects. Both series share a degree of cynicism, both initially hide the unpleasant truth about what mahou shoujos are from their main cast, neither series is scared to kill major characters, and both worlds have a “wishing” mechanism. The difference mainly comes in terms of the location of the setting and the format. Madoka Magica is an urban fantasy with a strong emphasis on shock factor and character drama, while Magic Knight Rayearth is a high fantasy adventure that saves most of the drama for later. In a sense, Magic Knight Rayearth could be described as the diamond in the rough while Madoka Magica could be considered the polished gem. Neither series is without its issues, but the core experience of each is similar enough that enjoyment of one may be indicative of a good experience with the other. Both series have three young girls who gain special powers to fight enemies. All three of them are color coded as red, blue & green. 

Both series have the word "Knight" in the title. Another similarity is that the protagonists are transported to another world. In MKR, it's Cefiro. Tenkai Knights has Quarton. 

Both shows have the heroes/heroines wear magical armor. Yep, armor. They also have the power of friendship among the protagonists as well as pretty boys. The main difference Ronin Warriors and Magic Knight Rayearth is armor evolution. 

Both emphasize the importance of standing on your own without burdening and using others. Both stress the importance of following your heart, but not letting your feelings get the best of you. Both involve physical battles that represent emotional and metaphysical concepts. Both have girls that will stop at nothing to change the world for the better. Bishoujo no chikara genki desu. 

Both series focus around heroes summoned to another world to save a kingdom in crisis. Both series have a video game feel to battling system setup in the series.
