Interest StacksReal robots are a subgenre of the mecha genre, in which the mechas are depicted as realistic warmachines as opposed to the superheroistic depiction of the super robot subgenre. It was started in 1979 by Mobile Suit Gundam. Anime that are heavily overlooked on MAL (at the time of writing, under 20k members). Most, if not all of them are also underrated. Will likely add stuff in the future as I watch them. Organized by the Japan Anime Festival Executive Committee, their members being the editors-in-chief of five major anime magazines, which were Animedia, The Anime, My Anime, Monthly OUT, and Animeck (Animage did not participate, as they had own Anime Awards). The main choices were decided by industry insiders and artistic creators (people like Osamu Tezuka), with the Fan Awards being self-explanatory. Before Gundam became a heavyweight franchise in 1985, there were several mecha anime in the early 80s that had more engaging, serialized stories and realistic, complicated characters and worldbuilding, but still shared a lot of similarities with 1970s mecha anime. This is a list of such mecha anime. Anime that mirror the premise of Gundam 0079 -- a group of kids stuck in a spaceship in the middle of a war zone. Tired of adaptions, reboots, and remakes in your sci-fi anime? Frustrated that MAL doesn't allow you to filter by source material? Well, this list has you covered. |
