Both series are primarily light-hearted adventure-series, but they also both have some pretty serious moments. (Though in Dragonball, they're mostly in the last third of the series.) One Piece is also partially inspired by Dragonball.

Over the years Dragon Balll has majorly influenced various series in some shape or form. In the case of Hunter x Hunter, one of the influences taken from Dragon Ball is the style, a style I'm less and less of. There's also the wacky situations that the characters find themselves in which the viewer will feel completely fine in suspending their disbelief for which mean both tackled the situations quite well, yet other series which have tried to follow suit have not always done so well. In turn, Hunter x Hunter has become a classic and influence in its own right thus making both series  read more

Both are shonen, but if you've seen DB in your childhood and you're looking for something similiar to it Naruto should do. The difference is that of course Naruto has better animation (well, it was aired almost 20 years after DB). Both have many fights and both are funny.

These two classic anime which influences later works are both action packed and utilize similar color and design schemes which were common place for the industry at the time. Both series also set standards of what to expect and/or surpass.

But, Fairy Tail is Shoujo, right? Actually, Fairy Tail is Sounen and yet another series which is influenced by Dragon Ball, what with the bright colors of said series carrying over into Fairy Tail, helping to set it apart genre wise. The main characters are also just as chaotic in nature as the characters from Dragon Ball, but the fights - there isn't a lack of them. So, don't let some of the cuter elements like a flying cat dissuade you from checking out Fairy Tail, or at least giving it a try for a few episodes.

This anime simply screams Dragon Ball. You don't even have to watch Dragon Ball to know it's similar. As long as you're familiar with what Dragon Ball is about, you can see it. We find a young women on a quest who by chance meets a small boy. As it turns out, this boy isn't really what he appears to be. He posses a special power that surpasses that of the norm. And as a result, they both embark together on a similar quest to the original. They confront some enemies along the way, but due to his abilities, the boy is able to fight  read more

Both shows are about finding magical balls.

Within both series, we see a smart, streetwise female on a journey who takes a clueless, strong male who lives in solitude out on 'her' adventure across the lands, searching for a number of specific items. The female leads are pretty sensible in comparrison to the female leads you see often in shounen's today, yet as serious as she is, she isn't immune to humiliation. The male lead isn't subject to buttmonkey and dispite his intellect being questionable, he does make you wonder at times. A partnership of brains and brawn - both being nessessary. Both are have a whole lot of conversation-worthy material.

Those animes shows that training is the way of pain. Just by watching those series you can feel, that even you can do something to be better one. In both series main hero gains friends after fighting them before as enemies.

It has same character design and it is a martial arts adventure story too.

Both series are classic Shounen for starters, using similar styles with subtle differences. More specifically, both series follow young protagonists as the progress through the world in search of something, although what they search for is a bit different. Chaos of course follows both, as well as humorous situations and both form bonds with those they proceed through life with.

Both are funny, quirky and unique 80's shonen anime with great art, intriguing and goofy characters, martial arts and the like.

The stories are somewhat based on the same legend, especially both Goku's (two monkeys). At first I thought that Saiyuki's Goku was a ripoff of Dragon Ball. Saiyuki is meant for older audience than Dragon Ball, but it still has a bit of humor and the feeling that the good guys will always save the day.

Both stories are about a clueless, innocent, strong kid who goes on an adventure with his friends in order to collect something.

They both follow young male protagonists who grew up in a location that is far from the norm, who later go out into the mainlands accompanied by an older female accomplice. They both have over-the-top fights as well as a good storyline to follow. They both involve a lot of traveling and meeting new friends and foes.

These anime have a blend of action and comedy who are the mandatory staples for Shonen Jump series of the 1980's. The tone of these series range from comedic to serious but contain a wide range of characters and multiple sequels that are still popular today. The most common elements found in these shows are their constant battle of good vs evil who both heroes, Goku & Kinnikuman, fight against wacky villains, robots, aliens and even Gods.

Both are classics, both have similar main characters and both leave a peacefull place to get adventures and awesome fights

Both are Shounen genres and focus a story based on the MC improving with any obstacle that he faces. Both series have a main rival (Kachan and Vegeta) which are almost identical in the "wanting to beat the MC" method of thinking . A lot of side characters helping the MC in multiple occasions. MC is Overpowered as f**k.

Both protagonists have a habit of turning enemies into allies by not just being strong, but also by being laid back and kind.

The beggining of Dragon Ball and Dragon quest: Adventure of Dai are very similar and have very similar vibe coming from both shows. I Already Recommended Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Quest, but every "OG" Dragon Ball fan will understand why you should watch first Dragon Ball and Why Dragon Quest is more similar to first Dragon Ball than with " Z " OG Dragon Ball, z, Gt, Super Fans should watch and give chance to Dragon Quest . This remake is HYPE!

Main character is male, who fights in order to defeat evil!! Also happens to fight for the one's that they love and want to protect. Not only that, but they both have company and help by other friends that tag along the way and support them. Action and Fighting Scenes!~

Both are based on 'Journey to the West', one of the 'Four Great Classical Novels' of Chinese literature, written in 1590 A.D.

The first reason for recommending the series comes down to the two series pulling from similar mythology in order to build the world, yet going into detail regarding what that mythology is would also invoke the spoiler rule for those who've not seen The God of High School yet. Battles and fight scenes are also one of the major draws for both series, but Dragon Ball - it is interesting to think about how it might have influenced The God of High School overall.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
Both anime focus on a very strong protagonist, who usually defeats his enemies with ease. They have a lot of action and fights, but also a lot of lighthearted comedic moments. The character design is also somewhat similar, especially the first villain that Saitama faces, who looks like a blue Piccolo.

While these two anime are not meant for the same audience (Dragon Ball is Shonen and Goku: Midnight Eye is not), both anime are initially inspired by Journey to the West. In both anime, the main protagonist wields a length-changing staff and battles against powerful enemies. Both anime are action-packed as well. If you like one, you should probably like the other.

Air Gear is probably one of the last series anyone might expect someone to recommend for Dragon Ball, yet... I've this feeling that those who like one, will like the other, even though the settings and scenarios are super different from each other. The main protagonists remind me of each other, things don't always go the way the protagonist hopes it would, plus there are awesome fight scenes in both series which are a major draw. Both series also utilize a bright color scheme along with humor elements. There's just something about these two being similar once one starts to dig deeper and really think  read more

Both are very catchy and entertaining. A goup of people fighting demons/monsters. --Fighting Scenes!! There's a lot of action and comedy. Main character (male) are searching for an object that can grant anyone a wish when all pieces have been collected and put together.

Both are action shounen anime where strong characters are fighting against enemies. Both have old animation. While Dragon Ball is more comedy, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is more violent.

Very similar art style, lot of fighting scenes and some perviness

Seemingly a kid adventure anime at first sight, surprisingly great action and engaging story, Hei will definitely remind you of kid Goku.

Both are comedy/adventure series that feature a very powerful protagonist on a quest and make friends along the way.

Both anime are based on Wu Cheng'en's classical novel Journey to the West and depict the Monkey King's (Son Goku) journey. Both have tweaks to the novel's story, but still stay true to its theme and atmosphere. Also, both anime have tons of humor and martial arts action.

Both MHA and Dragon Ball have loveable characters with unique abilities, great villains and tournament arcs. MHA, however, does it much better with a faster pace.

Son Goku is a character of the manga and anime Gensomaden Saiyuki. . It is also the hero of the legend of the Monkey King, which inspired Saiyuki, but also Dragon Ball.

Given the proper proportions, both series were based on the same novel (Journey to the West) and have similar aprouches both in early and later time of their histories.

Might be a good idea to play the game before you watch this, but maybe know that both series can be rather naughty but yet funny in their own way, and they both have rather fun characters

Son Goku is a character of the manga and anime Gensomaden Saiyuki. . It is also the hero of the legend of the Monkey King, which inspired Saiyuki, but also Dragon Ball.

Both anime are really similar in terms of story. MC and group are looking for something that can grant wishes, encounter enemies, fight in arenas, have special abilities. Croket! is a bit darker than it looks when you see the pictures.
report Recommended by Spyro
Same old style vibes plus the MC's are very pure and naive as well.
report Recommended by L4UR_05
Both amazing fighting anime. If you liked Dragon Ball, then I can guarantee that you'll like Hajime no Ippo as well. It doesn't have super powers or aliens, but the fights are intense and crazy.

Both involve a little kid with an unknown past and strange abilities going on a journey.

Dragonball Is very similar to Naruto Shippuuden and the orignal series Naruto because they both have intense magical fighting scenes, both have funny and emotional scenes and has a strong sense of friendship and family.

where as angelic layer is more on the cutesy side of things both of these shows have a turnament in which the main character must win or overcome. the stories are really good but with the longer shows the characters just have to keep fighting in more turnaments.
report Recommended by animehawk8504
They both have the same feeling to it. The main characters fight against monsters (which look very similar in a visual way). And both main characters get gradually stronger throughout the anime, and both fight alongside with friends.

Albeit taking place in a non-fantasy world, Grappler Baki shares at least a small handful of similarities to Dragon Ball, specifically the focus on martial arts. Baki is just as overthetop as Dragon Ball, and as the series progresses, it only escalates further, perhaps even drawing similarities even to Dragon Ball Z.
report Recommended by Eksevis
both main character can transform to be some kind of superman and their appearance will change to more spiky cool looking

Both have similiar graphics and great history :D

The main protagonists are of the same age, yet also find themselves getting into trouble simply because they're different from everyone else on the planet on top of having friends who also find ways of getting them into trouble. The styles are rather similar, which isn't so surprising given that they are both older series. Neither know what they're in for let alone what they will discover by the end of the journey.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
They both are centered around one kid who becomes the hero and tries to make the world they live in better place.

Dragon Ball is based on the same Chinese novel. Both Kongo and Son Goku (literal Japanese version of the novel's protagonist) are baset on Sun Wukong, the Monkey King born on top of a mountain from a stone egg. The main storyline is pretty similar as we follow a character that strives to become the strongest.
report Recommended by gohanks
Both stories starts with the search of something ( dragon balls in DB, philosophal stone in FMA) and have lots of adventures, powers and action.

Similar types of adventure story about seeking a a being (or objects that lead to a being) that can grant wishes. In Edens Zero, Shiki was raised by robots and meets female V-Cuber Rebecca, they go on an adventure to find "Mother", a goddess who can grant wishes. In the Pilaf Saga of Dragon Ball, Son Goku was raised by a human man and meats female adventurer Bulma, they go on an adventure to find the seven dragon balls that can unlock Shenlong, a dragon god who can grant wishes.

basically these 2 serie's were business rivalry's biggest assets , Toei Animation v.s Sunrise inc. but both couln'd help itself to make a serie in the trend of the rpg craze back then and both serie's left a great impact in anime, especially with the younger audience, dragonball has a bit more popularity advantage's but in Japan Wataru was/is a very big name , and have chibilike charachters, in dragonball only some chara are chibi

Toriko itself is heavily influenced by Dragon Ball and the main characters are earily similar. Toriko also presents all out action like Dragon Ball while also maintaining the element of fun along it.

Super Kid is the fan fiction written by a ten-year-old who was so into Dragon Ball, he thought he and his friends could be Goku and company.

Both have simple minded yet super strong main characters (Goku & Taiju). Both have hostile worlds where only the strong survive. Both have dangerous villains who directly clash ideals with our heroes. Both are exhilarating anime with epic adventures. Both have great character designs, awesome hairstyles and amazing OST's.

Pink is a OVA based on a one-shot by DB creator Akira Toriyama. Appreciators of Tori's unique style are bound to get a kick out of this. It's story is simple and easy to follow, the characters are well designed and likeable, it doesn't take itself too seriously and has a heart warming ending. If you are a fan of DB/DBZ/GT/Super and looking for more material by this ground breaking mangaka, please check out this OVA as well his other one shots (several of which also have their own OVA adaptations).

These anime contain a huge blend of genres and creativity as they demonstrate perverted humor, martial artists using ki-energy, tournaments and a hero from the wilderness. Other interesting traits in Jungle King Tar-chan include the usage of vampires, wrestlers and story arcs that dissects morality between men and inhuman beings.
report Recommended by THEAnimeHERO
Ramenman is quite a lot like DB in terms of animation style, setting (both have those chinese style mountains and watercolor nature depictions similar to those in old painting scrolls), both have a lot of martial arts training sequences, adventuring and bad guys defeating. They provide similar feel and level of enjoyment when watching. Ramenman is a bit faster paced and more episodic, so if you are looking for something like DB, consider Ramenman despite it's main character design and title might make bad first impression.
