Both shows begin in a post-apocalyptic world. Both shows' characters are on a journey to a destination which they know nothing about. Both are relatively dark shows, but do not shy away from humor occasionally. Both have action in them, but only when necessary, and the action isn't overdone. Both have fantastic endings that leave you thinking.

The stoty is really different, but the feeling is colse, exspecially the ending gives the same moral. The the song writer is the same, and it gives the sipirt to the show.

Also made by Studio Bones. Has a similar concept of social outcasts (Contractors/Wolves) of whose existence the general public is unaware, posing as humans and trying to survive any way they can.

Similar atmosphere of dying world and hopelessness. They both are dark and sad seinens.
report Recommended by Buran-kun
Both are about wandering in sad, depressing world to find something better, both have action scenes, both are in some way psychological.

I'd reccomend those who enjoyed the fantasy and animal aspects of Wolf's Rain try on Ginga Densetsu Weed for size. They both use animals as main characters, and they both have one of those scripts that can take you from a laugh, to bawling on the floor and back again in the blink of an eye. Although Ginga is bloody and violent, at times it does seem more oreinted towards a younger audience than Wolf's Rain is, but overall they're very similar.

Wolf's Rain and Witch Hunter Robin are both excellent series in which the story is presented in a dark setting. Characters are both developed and added slowly as you progress through the series. Each contain extensive action scenes and awesome music to go along with it.

From the snow covering the first scene in Fumetsu to the wolf .. it immediately hit me with Wolf's Rain feel. and as the show progresses, I can't help but feel that both of them relate to the same genre or somber adventures into an unknown world with a vague goal. the stories may have not much beyond those two aspect in common, but the overall vibe and feels just scream related. if you finish one and want to stay in the same headspace for something else, try the other.

Both shows create (or attempt to, that is an individuals opinion) an allegory. They are both slow paced and somewhat hard to understand completely.
report Recommended by BirdofSummer
Both deal with apocaliptic themes and have tragic stories.

The plots aren't the same, not even close, but the 'feeling' you get while watching them is the same. Dark drama, sadness, fighting, blood spillage, deaths and fighting to survive in a broken down civilisation with only 'hope' as your guide. Also that both animes have secrets about the world that keep you guessing to the very end. Also the bond between the characters are the same.

I had the same feeling while watching Jyu oh sei even though they have different plots. Both are sci-fi anime about an the future. Thor is just like Kiba. Wolf's Rain is much better though.

Both shows are must watch classics. They both focus on a small group who have reservations about the order of the world. Both shows do an impressive job of illustrating the depth of the worlds they are set in.

End of the World Scenario, Strong characters

Both heavily stylized according to the era they came from. Both have rather complex plots that come to a close by the final episode. Little to no subplots are present in either. Very similar pacing.

The vibes of both anime are similar. Both stories largely focus on characters traveling across a barren (often winter) land in search of a place that is rumored where they can live in peace. This peaceful place also shares similarities in names. For Vampire in the Garden, this place is Eden. As for Wolf's Rain, it is called Paradise.

Both anime are about animals. In Ginga Nagareboshi Gin, there are dogs who fight against bears and in Wolf's Rain there are wolves who are finding salvation for themselves. These wolves also can transform themselves to human form.
report Recommended by Atzaaa
Both series present a similar quest carried out by beings similar yet different from human beings. In both cases, they are hunted and repressed by humans who fear the greater power of their race. Toward the Terra takes place in space, in a more technological setting than Wolf's Rain, but they both develop a similar idea in an engaging way and with interesting characters. The endings are also worth getting there.

Both series start out with the appearance of an appealing fast paced action anime, but it quickly becomes apparent that they are predominantly character and story driven with intermittent compelling action sequences. Both animes also have a battle against the odds, which creates bleak undertones that are predominantly overpowered by a determined and hopeful vibe. Both series feature a secondary plot following characters from a different side of the story, and a main set of characters that are unlikely friends. Both animes have strong leading characters, a compelling and wonderfully animated world filed with interesting lore, and are instant classics.

Very similiar depressing/dark atmosphere in both of the series. In DTB there are contractors who are the outcasts, while in Wolf's Rain it's wolves. And they share a common studio, Bones, so the art is very similiar.

Both have insane sound and imagery. I found myself equally absorbed and lost in the aesthetic of both shows.

If I had this say, the male character in Wolf's Rain are in a way similar to the female characters in Red Garden.

I highly recommend checking this anime out if you liked Beastars. This anime is about wolves who are trying to live in a post apocalyptic world. Their able to transform into humans and are looking for a wonderful place called "paradise". The world thought they killed all the wolves 200 years ago, but they're beginning to make appearances, living as humans among everyone else. This show has a lot of character depth like beastars and shares the concept of a messed up world people are trying to live in. Also adorable wolves <3 the show is old but beautiful, I recommend checking it out

Both titles involve "wolves" in a sci-fi setting and feature a large group of powerful males that deepen their relationships and discover their shared fates over the course of anime. They are both highly philosophical works meant to make the viewers think, albeit in different ways. However, note that the Legend of the Blue Wolves remains unfinished, has lower animation quality, and might have more graphic depictions of the main characters' relationships.

Both are great supernatural adventures with a secretive and driven main character, although Trigun has way more comedy although also similarly dark times.

In my opinion these animes are similar due to the plots behind them both i think are based around the hole destiny and fate perception and both animes in my opinion have really deep plots and have drama and mystery with the supernatural elements in wolfs rain this is the characters turning into wolfs where as mawaru penguin drum has the penguins that cannot be seen by others. The art in mawaru penguin drum in my opinion is more lively and upbeat whereas wolfs rain is more dismal and dark.If you liked the dark side of wolfs rain in terms of the art then in my  read more

Both works take place in a futuristic world, and the main characters fight against the system seeking freedom, and also in both have lonely villains who have been victims of an unfair law.

Both of these anime feature main characters who are animals that can transform into humans and live among real humans.

dim adventure fantasy show that digs into its charecters and raletionships

Do I really have to tell you what's similar. Pretty much both have wolves as the main protagonists and it details how the characters struggle with their identity and pride with choosing to be wolf or human.

If you liked the aesthetics in either show than check the other one out. While true Princess Tutu is a lot more colorful and whimsicle than Wolf's Rain melancholic and gray world, both have very beautiful soundtracks that coregraph with the animation. In this way Wolf's Rain is a visual and musical experience in the same way that Princess Tutu is. And of course if you like the story in Wolf's Rain for it's symbolism and subtext, Princess Tutu has that too....too. Only it's more references to fairy tales and stage plays and is not on a large of scale as Wolf's Rain is.

Im surprised this isn't here already-- Girl with blue hair with special powers I got an extremely similar feeling from both animes. Of course wolf's rain is more dark, they are both amazing and deal with finding some different reality.
report Recommended by faerieofmist
Both shows are about bromance among a group of male friends who get together/care for each other despite the MCs Sakuragi/Kiba looking cold on the outside and they are the leader of the group. Both have a gloomy atmosphere, except WR is more of a fantasy genre, and they have a similar theme/goal of looking for paradise or hope in life.
report Recommended by sunsetocean
Both animes have very similar vibes: mysterious and post-apocalyptic future, snow everywhere, few humans, remnants of machines that suggest that there was a technological war, most of the animals extinct or on the verge of extinction. And both animes have a relatively slow passing. Another point in common is that both deal with some fairly philosophical issues. Anyway, Wolf's Rain has many more characters, more action, and a more complex story.

The whole feel of both animes are similar. The colors, character designs, and minimal dialogue.

Drama. This is the word that connects those two animes. The story in Romeo x Juliet is more romantic than that in Wolf's Rain, but the main idea is the same- the prise you have to pay for your freedom or for the happines of your loved one. Both of the stories are very touching and deep, have awesome animation and music and I hightly recommend them.

Both have very dark themes, and an overall quest for redemption.

Actually it means of similarities in its very dramatic and romantic story with a pack of actions! see how kiba and the other wolves handle their situations and problems seeking the paradise through the lunar flower maiden cheza!

Both are about animals having to disguise themselves as humans in order to fit in and stay alive. They are even both canines. Wolf's Rain is about wolves while Pom Poko is about Tankukis(raccoon dogs), a type of asian canine. Pom Poko has a lot of humor though, while Wolf's Rain is very dark.

No question: Wolf's Rain is the superior anime, but they do have a bit in common. Both center around a group that is seen as a menace to society and which the audience is meant to root for. Both also boldly kill off an almost unbelievable number of characters. You watch these individuals succeed through many trials, then suddenly that changes and one by one, they're systematically killed. The shift is quite sudden in both cases, but even more pronounced in Wolf's Rain. Obviously, watching the first season of Hakuouki is necessary, but the large amount of character death happens in season two, thus this  read more

Really similar atmospheres of drama and mystery, and of course, the fact that both revolve around wolves in human form.

Both animes are set in the dark and wintry northern territories, and they share a simular style of animation. But there's a wide difference... Wolf's Rain is a masterpiece, and First Squad is quite mediocre.
report Recommended by Finstergeist
Both series present themselves with adventures, but each journey also becomes a way to explore the psychologies of the protagonists. Wolf's Rain's ending has quite a different feel from Last Exile's, but in the end, the morals are very alike.

Well, in One Piece, Luffy and his nakama look for One Piece and in Wolf's Rain Kiba and his nakama look for Paradise. Both one piece and paradise are like legends but the main characters believe the legends and look for it. In both anime you can see the bond between comrades and how deep it is. Both contains a lot of good fighting scenes. In both animes, the main characters are not normal, one is about pirates and one is about wolf. Of course one piece is much lighter than wolf's rain but if you like either one, you'll like the other for sure!

They has a similar storyline: Terra e... is trying to find the way to earth, while Wolf's rain is trying to find heaven, escape from the current worlds. Both are meaningful and can make you move to tears.
report Recommended by VuNguyet
If you have noticed the end and you liked that searching for the paradise or the perfect end of the word you might also like this anime. but you have to wacht it in summer, not in another season, don't forget its a horror/spatter story so its made to make you feel mad.

When finishing up The Hakkenden I noticed some similar themes to the ever-popular Wolf's Rain. One major similarity is that they both deal with dogs or wolves on a quest to fulfill their destiny. Where Wolf's Rain features wolves disguised as humans, Hakkenden features half-dog/half-human warriors. In Hakkenden the goal of the warriors is to break the curse on their family and put an end to the evil Aboshi, who can be compared to Lord Darcia in Wolf's Rain. Similarly, Cheza from WR can be compared to Hamaji/Fuse in Hakkenden. An interesting feature of both is that they each have the following  read more

Both stories are touching and emotional and as episodes progresses, you'll see why. Oh but that's not all. Both Wolf's Rain and Claymore have a lot of drama and action. Furthermore, the main character in both series is a silent yet determined type who works with others to make a difference in a dark world.

In Wolf's Rain, a pack of wolves is searching for something they desperately desire where as in Zankyou no Terror the protagonists already know what they want and try desperately to achieve it. Both series pack a ton of emotion and will have you cry at times, though Zankyou no Terror starts off a little slowly. They are both slow paced series with a lot of attention for character development and drama build up. There is also a good amount of action and even some comedy. Last but not least, they are blessed with a a soundtrack composed by the amazing Yoko Kanno, who can  read more

Both are really good series, I guess I find it similar because of endings, the way people fight with each other, and the feeling of it.

Two similar post-apocalyptic worlds, and both involve a princess-like girl, whom our hero must save, so that in the end she can... Well, see for yourself!

Both Wolf's Rain and Princess Mononoke have a lot to do with animals, the enviroment, and both take place in a slightly post-apocolyptic setting.

both have a very similar climate, where the characters reflect on their actions. The characters are also on a journey that make them go through several different environments.

The nature of the theme, the animation style, and the amount of action in both anime are what make them similar. There isn't many fight scenes but the ones that there are are pretty conclusive. The nature of the theme is similar because they make you think about ethics, morals, and philosophy in general. The character base is a similar as well. By this I mean that the characters in each anime are plenty, making the angle from which you see the story line like a kaleidoscope. Also, the endings kind of leave you asking for more... they were mostly conclusive but there was a  read more

Both titles include the main character and his gang on yourney. The difference is, the Wolf Rain's gang searches for the legendary place while the main character, Dr. Tenma from Monster investigates the person, he is after. Drama, mysteries and tragedies are higly used in both animes. Many really good characters die or sacrifice themselves in order to help their friends. The main antagonists from both animes are higly manipulated, yet calm and polite with smooth voices. Wolf rain is by far more supernatural, while Monster is completely realistic. Both Monster and Wolf's Rain are known for their dark nature.

Both anime have a similar dark feeling to them throughout the series, and take place in futuristic worlds with a post-apocalyptic theme. Both series focus largely on a group of male characters, and also focus on the struggle for survival in a broken world.
