1. Enemies from unknown origin take over the seas. 2. Humans fight back. KanColle: More lighthearted + sorta dull aside from some cute slice of life. Fine for spending free time on if you have nothing else to do. Treat like any slice of life. Ars Nova: Exciting, intelligent, better fights, better usage of CG animation, better character development, better "powers", etc. Main downside is less yuri. I don't really care much about the ship girls thing, but this anime was a real "page-turner" when it aired. KanColle was more like "oh the next ep is out".

Similarities: Both have the same Naval settings. Both involves war in the seas. Both also have the same situation were humans were driven out of the sea. Dissimilarities: The enemy in one anime is more of a hidden type. while the other anime, the enemy is known. One has an extra sci-fi genre, while the other has supernatural, comedy and harem. The art in one anime has a futuristic theme, while the other one has a bit of retro theme.

There're a lot of similarities, like the 3D graphics, the MC's search for identity, and the emotionless personality of the characters. Also, other scenes take place in other worlds as unearthly beings fight each other while humans communicate to them. And, of course, Weapon-action fight scenes!

Similarities: Technologically advanced weaponry of unknown origins threatens the safety of the earth, and the only ones who can fight them are similarly technologically advanced weapons controlled by super AIs that have taken the form of cute girls who have taken a liking/bonded with the protagonist. Differences: One is the air force and the other is the marines.

The same plot where mankind's existence lay on the hand of submariners who are up against weird looking enemies, however one is limited to a 4 ep OVA, while the other one is a full TV anime.

Both deal with war Both deal with ships One deals with friendships and bonds The other deals with alternative histories and complex characters. If you liked arpeggio you'll probably enjoy Zipang.

This show reminded me of Mouretsu Pirates in a way. If you enjoyed this i think you might also enjoy Mouretsu even more. Similarities: Girls controlling ships (well in mouretsu's case space ships) Differences: Fight in Oceans/Space Don't want to tell too much just give it a try if you don't like it in the first few episodes then whatever.

Both shows have a strong focus in intense warship battles and have beautiful girls as main characters (as well as a few males). - Starship Operators uses CGI for battles, while Arpeggio is a full produced CGI anime. You can see a huge technical difference between. - Relationships are well portrayed in Arpeggio. Starship Operators also has interaction between its characters, but it seems a little bit odd.

Both have beautiful and similar characters. Both have hilarious moments, and will make you cry at some moment. Worth watching both if you like comedy and sad animes

While not technically a mecha show, Arpeggio of Blue Steel has a similar sort of premise to Darling in the FranXX. A short and sweet story, Arpeggio is about a futuristic world in which climate change has isolated mankind. A mysterious navy of anthropomorphic avatars keeps mankind blockaded from the seas. Only one of these anthropomorphic ships sides with humanity, giving them a chance to fight back and be free. Obviously there is some parallel here to Zero-Two, who being half Klaxosaur gives humanity a chance in there own similar plight in Darling.

For some reason that I can not remember, when I was watching Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai I thought that this anime is different but somehow similar to the anime Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio Ars Nova, both of them have really good openings and endings musics.

Similar themes of ships who have been resurrected as girls. There are a trifecta of these series, Azur Lane, Arpeggio, and KanColle. Arpeggio concentrates on philosophical issues, KanColle on action, and AZ a mix of the two.

While it's pretty clear that Arpeggio was deeply inspired by the original Yamato in terms of technology, action, and ship design, the differences extend further than that. They both tell the story of a young hotshot commanding one small ship against a whole hostile universe to bring peace to their dying world. They both use the plot device of weapons of mass destruction in order to bring peace, exploring the morality behind using such devices and the terrible consequences that they can cause. In addition, their use of careful planning and thinking ahead is key to their survival against a bigger and more powerful foe.

Both involve awesome and tactical ship fights with non-stop action. The garrison of the Blue Steel reminds me a little bit of the Black Lagoon Crew too.

Apocalyptic series with a 'selected' protagonist (and his friends) who aim to restore balance to the world. The enemy they deal with are intelligent non-human entities. Both strike me as series you should watch if you have watched the other, they have their own style of execution but share a similar atmosphere and narrative. Ars Nova is more fleshed out in terms of strategy though.

- Both have unknown very strong enemy, that almost defeated humanity. - CGI action scenes. - Similar atmosphere of despair, though Muv-Luv is a bit darker than Ars Nova.

Soukou no Strain and Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova contains science fiction themes with a military format related to a war between factions. Both series chronicles an ongoing conflict in a futuristic setting. Both series' factions at war possesses special technology used to battle their adversaries with a mysterious origins surrounding them. Among other factors, there is action and drama. The main female protagonist from both series are trained as soldiers and serves as a member in the ongoing conflict.

Both have beautiful cgi rendering, and take place in a post-apocalyptic world.

Similar 3D animated cell-shaded look. Both are about a boy, while initially disliked by many, later achieves heroic deeds; even if they made some enemies along the way. The protagonists of both series gains a powerful vessel to board (a space mecha in Knights of Sidonia, and a sci-fi future-spec'd submarine in Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova) to fight against a relatively unknown enemy bent on destroying humanity.

Both have a military theme. Main characters (female) are physically personified into human form, but are still in actuality weapons. Upotte!!- firearms. Aoki Hagane- naval vessels. Upotte kind of played off the characters are weapons (Upotte!! tries to pass it self off as more of a high school/slice of life series). Where AHnA fully accepts & uses it to as a plot point (AHnA tells us repeatedly Iona is a submarine & is more willing to accept it's an action/battle/adventure series). AHnA is only two episodes in at the moment so I'll try to update it further into the series.

An intrepid and calculating main lead and his quirky high-school crew take on and outsmart stereotypically brazen invaders despite only possessing inferior craft. Crazy battles ensue

These two anime are similar in that the humans use the enemy's technology to battle against them. Both of the enemies' goal involves the destruction of humanity. Many of the battles have surprising outcomes. Some political aspects are introduced.
